Yeah it can be retarded at times, but it's goddamn entertaining. The ending made me rage even more than the original ending. I wanted to yell at Nagai after that.

Cyborg 009 vs Devilman was mostly a Cyborg 009 anime featuring Devilman.

Amon is just a spinoff, and if you know the manga, it captures the horror tone of the ending pretty well. It's not meant as a standalone OVA.

I don't see the problem with the first two OVAs.

The thing about Amon is that the scenes are good, but without context, this ova makes no sense at all. You have to read the original to appreciate it.

Basically, Amon Apocalypse of Devilman OVA extends the fights in the last part of the original manga with its own twist. So for people who find the ending "rushed", this is for them.

The manga Amon Darkside of Devilman also extends it.

Nagai also added a few extra pages at the end and included Shin Devilman in the original manga as well, but that version is not scanlated. You can get the French or Italian editions (Black Box and JPOP) if you want them.

"Laced with Drugs" is one of the best scenes though and sets the mood of the danceclub.

I have the French edition by Black Box. I don't know what the Japanese raws say, but mine says

"Ce n'est pas qu'une cigarette"

Meaning

"It's not only a cigarette"

There's no mention of drugs anywhere. Also the English scanlations available for Devilman aren't exactly great when it comes to the translation. Some of the lines read very awkwardly.

With that said, I am satisfied with the official translated version from Black Box. It can really change one's perspective of a series.

Maybe if this does well we'll get a new translation?

Another example is the famous my father died scene.

That line

"My father died. Because of that, I became totally alone. He was my only family."

In french it's

"Mon pere est mort. He he... alors, voila... je vis seul maintenant. Il n'avait que moi, et je n'avais que lui."

Which translates to

"My father is dead. He he... so, now... I live alone. He only had me, and I only had him."

See the difference in translation. The English one is humorous, the French one, not so much.
