Trailer's out yo
Both L and Light look like shit.
I don't care about L being a nigger
Light isn't meant to look like some ugly fuck boy
I heard Misa (her name is Mia now) is gonna be a youtube star since it's the closest thing to transpose "jpop idol" onto
L becoming black was not needed but could be expected. But why the fuck does it look like completely shitty ? Adapting DN is fucking easy just keep the story and just localize it in USA. Even that was too hard for them
They're doing an American version as in different plot
That is itself is interesting since we already bombarded with the shitty live actions from japan telling the same shit
Now the problem is they got the worst people on board as the two main guys
You lot sucking off whitewashing crap, there are SEVEREAL japan live actions all subbed, what are you waiting for?
Now this movie besides ryuk could have did way better with the actors and light is the most shittiest one they chose
I'd laugh my ass off.
But there's no way they're going to do that.
>hype up making one of the main characters black
>turn around and make it the criminal who was scheduled to be executed for heinous crimes black
The tears and butthurt would be great, but there's just no way.
>>she's black, transgender and a muslim who is against ISIS
>How do you respond?
I would say it is ingenious, because a transgender would have two names. And no one but a Deathgod would be able to know which one is official for the purpose of the Death Note.
It's a movie?
I always thought it was gonna be a show.
>They didn't even pull in someone known
unfortunately only Japs know how to write good homosexual/transgender/futanari characters
Looks like shit. Hollywood needs to stay from anime.
They should put this ending in. Anime didn't.
>I like to pee on ants and watch them swim around in it. I sometimes wonder what they think of the mysterious yellow rain. They panic at first, mandibles flailing, running into each other, trying to escape the warm, bitter stream, but eventually the come to accept it, maybe even enjoy it. Really puts things into perspective. So Light, if you ever find yourself in doubt, just find an ant hill, and pee on it. You'll thank me later.
I'm not sure if I like this rendition of Ryuk.
They also missed an opportunity by not casting bryan cranston as Lights dad.
>sucking off whitewashing crap
Did you even read my post? Are you retarded? Do you think I don't know the movies with Tatsuya Fujiwara exist?
Speaking of Fujiwara, as an aside: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9PkY7CF3Tg4 based on his Kaiji rendition
No, mexifag here, it was released in Mexico for some reason, but the movie its really shitty, here is a quick rundown:
In the future a NEW rule for the Death Note appears, only 7 death notes are allowed in the human world shinigami king is bored and dying so he orders the other shinigami to give their death notes to humans and the one who's owner is the best will be the new shinigami king (this shit goes nowhere so its pointless to get into it) Many Kira imitators are around but one claims that he can return kira to life but is just bullshit, the creepy guy in the trailers is L's son, and wants to get the new Kira, he is also in love with a shinigami who as you might expect, dies trying to save him The MC is an investigator who in the end is revealed to be just another Kira who wiped his own memory in order to get into possession of the 7 death notes, because if he owns the 7, any other death note that falls into human hands will be useless because of the new rule For some reason Light ALSO has a child who gets killed because he was too edgy and evil, shit was hilariously bad, also Misa does nothing relevant to the movie In the end, the investigator is taken to jail but somehow L is such a bigshot that he can take Kira's place in the prison and rename Kira to be the new L AND Kira to catch brand new death note users, L kills himself and the movie ends
Its a hilarious shitfest
Now if Japan would take a couple notes and learn that their 3D adaptations don't need to have 1:1 designs for characters.
>looks like an absolute garbage
Can't say I'm surprised
You know, I can almost, almost, somewhat forgive L being a nigger
But Light is supposed to be attractive, it's a fucking plot point, you can't get an ugly as death kike for the part
Fuck this bullshit
IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT N AND LIGHT LOOKS LIKE THE IMPORTANT THING IS THAT THEY CAN ACT. I'D RATHER HAVE A CAST THAT LOOKS NOTHING IN THE ANIME BUT AT LEAST THEY CAN ACT GOOD. I'M SO FUCKING HYPED.
Light is supposed to be unironically perfect in terms of looks, personality, and brains to make him a less likely suspect for being kira
this one gives me instead the vibe of a high school loser getting his first machine gun about to go on his school shooting
also it looks like people might commit suicde instead of coincidental accidents happen to kill them, I kinda wish if they just write a name with no details of how they died that it would just be heart failure or heart attack, something about the suicide makes it kinda dumb
like "the book made me do it" sounds kinda dumb to me
Posting superior Live Action
Except no one gives a shit about SAO.
The difference between SAO & Death Note is that Death Note is a fucking masterpiece that is getting ruinned by these cunts trying to juice it even more by making garbage movie / series.
More like "Drug Note".
>The human whose name is written in this note shall recieve a hallucination
>If the contents of hallucination or drug name is written within the next 40 seconds of writing the person's name, it will happen
>Looking great actually
I know nip faces are a problem with live-action adaptations, but I can forgive that.
I'm glad they stay true to the character designs, just like in the
Ace Attorney Movie
It's real m8, sounds awful doesn't it?
It seem they took the plot of Platinum End (which is pretty much Mirai Nikki) and made a Death Note movie out of it.
When its revealed Light has a son is the most cringe worthy scene in the movie, they show us this little japanese kid who is evil and has this evil grin, but for some reason out of nowhere he and his mom gets killed for no reason, also its never explained who the mother was, just some random slut it seems
Light was supposed to be the best looking guy in school with constant female attention, why does he look like a narco with that weird blonde hair? Why isnt he brown haired?
What are the action sequences, its mostly light sitting down, and detectives sitting down and looking at papers/monitors.
Can't wait for more garbage american adaptations of TTGL and Code Geass in 2 years.
>LeoLuch is an exiled mulatto because Charles got cucked by a nig, and he ends up leading his fellow nigs to freedom while on the path to reclaiming his rightful throne as KANG
>nips would be replaced with nigs
>Suzaku is on Jerome
>Kallen is called Kallen in school but thats her slave name
>calls herself K-nisha
>Suzaku is portrayed as an uncle tom until LeoLuch shows him the light
>and then aggots will still bitch about whitewashing
The live-action Death Note trilogy was so good. The fact that...
... do I spoiler this? Ah, what the hell, just in case.
... L survives the second movie... for a little while longer anyhow... and goes on to be in his own spinoff for the final movie was the best. Felt almost like a Doctor Who episode only without aliens. Yeah, L was still gonna die but it was a better sendoff than in the manga/anime.
Yeah, I said it. Fight me.
That trailer had a lot of action for a show that mostly involves people sitting quietly inner mono-logging in their bedrooms.
Should have got the dexterfag to be light and the nigger from that show be L
Would have ironically been funny
Aye but that was like one episode, also Mello was pretty cool for rocket launching trick.
Get Ryan Reynolds to play Saitama, he is the perfect fit. His deadpool personality matches him.
AllMight would look great in CGI, the same CGI level as was used for Colossus in Deadpool.
>Netflix's Devilman looks awesome
>Netflix's Death Note looks like shit
I guess the latter. Probably because of the abundance of white people in roles. Of course, Hollywood's been putting a bunch of black people as well, but people focus more on the white stuff. Personally I'd like to see more Asian actors for once, but I guess they haven't been vocal enough against that.
Either way, the real issue is American culture in Japanese plots. Not a whole lot of crossover.
I understand casting an asian actor for an asian role, but I can also understand there being difficulties in casting an entire cast of asians if the movie is being made in the US.
I mean, no one complained about the Attack on Titan movie being all-Japanese. And there's already a lot of Japanese Death Note movies, so I don't see the problem with making an American version with white/black people.
>people complaining about "whitewashing"
>L is a nigger
just fucking end this piece of shit world
It's just that Japan is really Japanese, while America has a lot of minorities. You can certainly find an Asian actor out there, it's just that they aren't too prominent in Hollywood. It's way harder to find a good-looking fluent speaking Caucasian person in Japan, and that's why it's fine when Japan casts Japanese people.
"muricawashing" would be a more correct word then.
americans dont deserve anime
Shitty memes likes >representation is what holding down everything nowadays.
I mean, how can people actually believe that a person can't be inspired from someone else outside their race/gender/etc.
>adapt a series
>change the settings
>probably change the plot to fit 2 hours of film
>change the characters background and appearance
>also change their personalities
Why the fuck didn't they just make a standalone story instead of literally butchering everything.
Even if it was somehow better than the nip one, the fact that it completely butchered everything from the original source is not something to be forgiven.
Seriously, why can't they just stop pretending that it shares the characters/plot and make something completely different?
It's funny because he ultimately dies without getting the truth.
Like they fulfilled the "black dude always dies" trope while filling out an ethnic checklist. It serves no purpose but to attract people, since if anything everybody should be asian.
It's an okay story. It's not shit, but it's too ridiculous to be "good." It tries to present itself as grounded, but is just too ridiculous to be good. I think ridiculous things can be good, but not if they present themselves as grounded.
Death Note is a manga, I never watched the anime, but the manga never had anything asinine like the chip scene or this scene. I do enjoy these webm's and gifs when I see them, but they are not fundamentally representative of what Death Note was.
you know what he meant
the "this is real life, people die and that's it" philosophy
the "there are no good or bad guys, just tones of grey" thing
the "humans don't really matter at the end and justice/injustice is just a concept" thing
It tries too hard to be philosophical and "realistic" but it fails at both. I won't deny it's an interesting story but people give it too much credit
Because this shot totally deserved to be in the trailer.
ME AND YOU CAN RULE THIS CITY SPIDER-MA... I MEAN...
Looks good imo. I don't give a shit about the ethnicity of the characters. The series looks like it will pretty competent compared to the jap versions
Well never fucking mind then.
If they were going to make a shitty netflix exclusive movie, rewriting it to be set and filmed in an american city is probably their best option. They aren't going to film in Japan, and having a full Japanese cast in an American setting would be weird.
The dumbest complaint I've seen was "This is just an excuse to not hire PoC actors" "but L is black" "That's racist too because he dies!"
Can someone explain the decision for L's being black? If it's for sjw pandering, isn't that really counterintuitive because the evil genius privileged white man kills him? (also, I don't like Light being white either. But I think there is smaller difference in aesthetics in Asian ->white
than White/japanese -> Black.)
Yeah me neither. Hopefully that's at least a progression shot, where it showed him after he regressions into madness
It does later in the series, but early on he was quite literally perfect looking, perfect conduct, grades, etc. I'm trying not to dog them too much, I'm just skeptical of them possibly making another AoT live action
Not at all. The whole point was that Light was a person who could have been anything. He was handsome, well-groomed, knew how to excel at everything he ever touched and so on. He wasn't some sad bullied kid; he was borderline inhuman, which contributed to his inability to relate to others except in the most abstract sense.
They probably just said fuck it and let's just make it an American version of the story. But when you make it an American story, people want diversity because America is diverse. It's smarter to just do that so people don't get pissed. Honestly, race swapping doesn't really matter to me unless the character becomes solely about being that race. Personally, I just think sticking to the original is better.
>tfw you don't care this time around because its been years and any interested you had for DN died off.
Feels good to just laugh at the spergs freaking out.
In all fairness, ethnicity and race are entirely irrelevant to L's character. Light is arguably an indictment of the Japanese school and family system (he seems numb and almost depressed at the beginning of the series, yet his mother only cares how great his grades are), but L could be Mongolian and it wouldn't make any difference.
>tfw when you'll never live to see zac Yagami.
Granted, he isn't japanese, but other than that he is a perfect match.
the nigger that plays L plays Light instead, and vice versa. How much does it improve? I mean, L was a fucking weirdo, and this junkie faggot fits the bill a bit more than some clean, educated black dude would. It's also not unreasonable to say the black guy would be sociable and popular like Light was, whereas L kept mostly to himself.
Agreed, It doesn't really matter what race L is.
Although I do think sticking to the original is better if you can... but then if you have an all Japnese cast you'd probably want to film in Japan... and so on and so on. It's easier to say it's an American adaption and go from there. Honestly if you don't see a problem with Light being white, you really shouldn't see a problem with L being black.
I hope this happens but I doubt it. Netflix knows exactly what kind of backlash would happen if they made the black guy a criminal just in L's shadow.
>black guy starts killing people and has to be stopped by heroic white shut-in stoner
you cant do this
only way it can work is if the characters are 100% Japanese people(played by korean/chinese-american actors)
Why does it not matter what race L, or any of the characters are? Anime/ this movie are both visual mediums. And whether we all like it or not, race definitely changes how we perceive a character. I like black characters, I just don't like changing from the source material. ( and that goes for all mediums if it can be avoided.)
A fair point. If you read my comment I do say I believe sticking to the original is the best. But I really don't perceive a character just by race. Unless literally, everything they do is a stereotype.
> Make L black
> It's racist because L dies
> Make Light black
> It's racist because Light kills people
It doesn't matter how you look at it, people will find a way to call it racist.
Putting black L aside - why did they make Kira the most obvious school shooter looking motherfucker?
What should matter is how they act their parts. I still say the two should swap actors. Have the black dude play Light and the drug junkie play L. Who cares what they do, everybody who's gonna watch the series knows what it's known for. Hell, they could even try and make Light be more likeable. But everyone's bitching about race instead of the actual flaws in the adaptation.
Yeah, I agree. The problem is people who don't see it like that and want a flawless black character who can do or be wrong ever, which obviously makes for flat characters. But hey, wankers gonna wank and this people will find any way to call it racist.
>L is a black guy
>Light is a drug addict
>misa is a cheerleader
>dubstep in the trailer
>one of the characters is credited as "douchebag bro"
Could they have fucked it up any more? The only good thing is Willem Dafoe. Might watch it just for him. But the rest is just so so bad..
> It's a cunning cat and mouse tale between a detective and the killer
> The detective loses?
> And\cuz he's black?
> Hell I don't need a 20 episode drama to point out the obvious. I'll have this resolved in a single sci-fi original.
this is one of the few shows where I don't mind the americanization of the cast, I don't want to watch a japanese live action and, if I wanted, there are like 3 different ones to pick from already. I mean it's not a dragon ball in high school type of deal, they are jsut making it more palatable for western audiences.
>that not Zac Effon "DAMAGED" Light
Oh no, I see where this is going to go.
>they are jsut making it more palatable for western audiences
It was already extremely popular in western countries as is. Making L black was clearly done for no other reason than to appeal to SJWs. The rest of the characters have just been made into stock teenage characters from every movie ever. Light has been made into a troubled youth who probably gets bullied, Misa is an edgy cheerleader, and many filler characters have been made into high school jocks by the looks of it.
Casting thread? Fine.
Here's my pick for Light. Pretty, charismatic and already has ample experience exploding entire timelines in his mad pursuit of justice.
Compared to "School shooter" Light, I'd rather have this instead. At least it looks like he's president of some club at this school instead of sitting alone in the cafeteria while watching lets plays on his phone.
Guys... What if Black L is actually Lind.L.Taylor?
So will this be the new Edge of Tomorrow or will it be the new Dragonball Evolutions?
Wow good thing this movie doesn't have any gooks in it. My tiny American brain cannot comprehend gooks and chingchong men so it's good that everyone is randomly black or white just like the world is in my brain.
>Make character with established race black
>People rightfully get upset
>People who get upset are painted as being the literal KKK
>"If you want to fight against racism and social injustice, give us all of your money! Support diversity! We are fighting for YOU, trust us!"
So is his name still gonna be "Light Yagami" even though he's white?
Also if this isn't set in Japan then how does the name "Kira" work if it's not a Japanese bastardization of "killer"?
Might be that he starts by killing criminals from Japan first, so the Japanese media still give him that name.
Not sure how L homes in on him so quickly if that's the case.
Honestly outside of a complete and total rewrite, the pacing on this movie is going to be completely fucked.
What the fuck is up with Light's nasty greasy hair?
Minus the facial hair I think I look like a better Light.
>Tries to save the lives of criminals
This checks out.
Fucking this, he's supposed to be this uber preppy kid, to the point where you don't know where the perfectionism ends and the sociopathy begins.
The movie format is a weird move too.
Hollywood just doesn't like Asians except for the occasional Asian female.
Not like I care since I almost never watch anything Hollywood related.
However, I do start caring when Hollywood starts intruding into my anime and manga world.
Nothing good comes from Hollywood going weeaboo.
They made Light look like the greasy mother fucker who would wear a suspiciously heavy trench coat to school.
I'll probably sound like a retarded contrarian but fuck it, I loved that teaser. I have high hopes for the movie.
Pic related in particular was enough to convince me both characters are respected despite the setting change.
Why are they so bad at hair, I don't understand.
Is it so hard to style with some layers?
This was my hair in high school, I don't even cosplay.
I thought it was a data center but now that I look at it it looks like an array of safes. Maybe they're condensing the whole story in one movie and neither Near nor Mello appear, if so I can only approve.
Raito's hair looks mature and intellectual in japan. Someone with that hair in the west looks like an emo canadian teenager singing ballads for a living.
It's not that they can't do it, retard.
Did you even watch the show? Light is a perfect student who is confident and attractive. L is a pale shut in who looks and acts awkwardly. They've switched everything and made L cool and confident, and made Light a crackhead loser loner.
>mfw Dani California is the ending song
Good movies though, I enjoyed them, even with the terrible Japanese acting
Which is kind of weird, considering that the "perfect rich kid is actually a dangerous sociopath" thing is an ubiquitous cliché even in American pop culture. Hell, you could take Light, put him in a highschool movie/supernatural series/crime show, and there's a good chance the audience would say "yep, he's totally a villain" the moment they see him, just because he's too perfect. I guess that kind of character can't be the protagonist in Writerland?
>L is a pale shut in who looks and acts awkwardly
Since when is being pale part of caracterization? It's not even a plot point.
> L is a shut in who looks and acts awkwardly
He hides his face, wears only black and looks like a Chuuni. You don't think that's ankward? I do.
> Light is a perfect student who is confident and attractive
You don't think this guy is attractive? You have some serious shit in your eyes.
And it's too early to tell whether the guy is confident or not. Light shat his pants hard the first time Ryuku appeared if you'll remember.
>They've switched everything and made L cool and confident, and made Light a crackhead loser loner
Light was always a crackhead loser loner. He just hid it well. While L, though he might have been ankward, was also cool and confident, arrogant too, read the fucking manga again.
Not really. He challenged Light to a tennis match, and proved to be fairly skilled. Also in anothe scene he nonchalantly stole Misa's cellphone, as if that was normal to him. His behaviour in general is not awkward at all, sitting and standing poses aside.
What happens if you don't write anything but the person's name while thinking of their face? Does a random hallucination happen? What'd be the "heart attack" standard equivalent?
I don't really know how I feel about Light, but I actually kinda like Nigga L.
I especailly like the fact that he's actively hiding himself with the hood and scarf.
It's not just some weirdo that you can't find any information on despite sitting with and talking to him, it's a black guy who's keeping his face from the public and the killer so it can't just be looked up in any way.
I'm kinda scared of what they'll do to Ryuk but overall this looks worth a shot.
If it's shit, it should still be good for a laugh.
>people complaining about it being "whitewashed" in the comments
>Since when is being pale part of caracterization?
that means he doesnt go out often and is probably a shot in
>He hides his face, wears only black and looks like a Chuuni. You don't think that's ankward? I do.
theres a diference betwen akward and cringy
>You don't think this guy is attractive?
no he looks like a guy who is bullied in highschool
>Light was always a crackhead loser loner
nope he prety mutch lose his shit wen he find the death note
> L, though he might have been ankward, was also cool
he wasnt cool
Eh, that's basically Ryuk, only the ants are the humans, the human world is the pit and his casual dropping of the two (2) Death Notes is the piss. Nothig outta ordinary here.
>only ever watch anime for the past 15 years
>have no idea who all these big actor names are
>Matsuda didn't take the gold in Rio
>it was his last chance
>Smartest detective int he world is a black guy
>He beats the white guy in the end (cos you know they aint going to also have the near part in a movie)
This shit is so fucking forced into everything and its pissing me off
I want to know what's with the kiss. Why. Death Note had some pseudo-sexual scenes (or mostly implied relationships/sex/etc with Misa and Kiyoda Takada or whatever the titty short hair bitch was) but still, wat.
I'm actually disgusted. Ghost in the Shell didn't even make me feel like this.
I haven't seen an adaptation this plain pig disgusting since Dragon Ball Evolution, but at least that had camp on it's side. This has nothing.
Are going to get a fucking Inuyasha movie next? Is it going to be set in America too?
They passed up Zac Effron for this
I would also be annoyed if Light was a black dude
If it was a movie about running at the olympics and the black guy won i wouldnt care
But this is a story about outsmarting each other, and we all know black people are dumb, this is forced jew bullshit
I just finished the anime. season 2 was quite shit desu. but season 1 was fantastic.
near is a little faggot ass bitch, someone should stamp on that manchilds toys.
what's some other good dubbed anime?
>there are all these boards on 4chan, but, you see, YOU CAN ONLY CHOOSE ONE AND STAY THERE FOR ETERNITY
You delusional faggots, Dafoe is only doing the VOICE for Ryuk. There is no actual acting involved.
Which means i wont get to enjoy any Dafoe since my weeabo flatmate cannot into english. Fuck.
>every other board on this site has gone to shit except for /a/, there is no shitposting on /a/, there is no cancer on /a/, /a/ is perfect
>implying he won't be on-set to give the actors something to act against
>i only use one board, and it's the anime board
Fuck your /pol/ shit. Near was utter shit so I'd welcome him not just being absent but even defeated and BTFO'd instead of the bullshit he pulled (multiple asspulls and bullshits, being exact) in the animanga.
I don't give a shit about L being black. I do give a shit about him not being an autistic fuck.
If they wanted to make him black, they should've just snatched Donald Glover and have him do the exact same thing he did in the Martian. No one but actual stormcucks would complain if that's the case.
First GitS and now Death Note. Why are they doing this?
It really does. He's got such a weird face and he's so good at over-emoting that Green Goblin would have been so much better just letting him overact in green facepaint instead of that idiotic mask.
Because they're realizing how big anime stream sites like crunchyroll are and are finally realizing that it's a viable market to target.
However, they seem to have no fucking clue how to adapt anime the same way they had no fucking clue when they started adapting video games.
It may get better, but it will take a long time.
Okay, can someone please explain to me how L made the assumption that something involving the supernatural was going on so early in the investigation and how this was perfectly reasonable to him?
If the exact same events were unfolding in real life, no one would be retarded enough to seriously entertain the idea that there was some magical power causing criminals to die.
When the double for L is on tv and is killed, why is the immediate assumption that Kira is able to kill anyone anywhere with some power and not that they have a leak, or that the killer (or team of killers) already know his identity and have been following him around?
it just seems so retarded to me.
When L stole Misa's phone, why didn't he put in on silent and took Light's call? Maybe Light would have asked Misa if she saw L's name without first checking her identity. It would've been instant win for L if it did happen.
>When the double for L is on tv and is killed, why is the immediate assumption that Kira is able to kill anyone anywhere with some power and not that they have a leak, or that the killer (or team of killers) already know his identity and have been following him around?
Because Kira wasnt't able to kill the real L right there and then even though he dared him to.
>they have a leak, or that the killer (or team of killers) already know his identity and have been following him around?
How would a mole cause someone to have a heart attack at that precise moment, exactly?
>If the exact same events were unfolding in real life, no one would be retarded enough to seriously entertain the idea that there was some magical power causing criminals to die.
>When the double for L is on tv and is killed, why is the immediate assumption that Kira is able to kill anyone anywhere with some power and not that they have a leak, or that the killer (or team of killers) already know his identity and have been following him around?
Hundreds of people all around the world died from heart attacks. First they didn't exclude the possibility of an elaborate plot, but when Lind L Tailor died there was no room left for doubt.
The police investigated the connections between the victims and found out that all of them were wanted for some crime. After that they found out that all of them had their names broadcast in the media. That made them suspicious that they're killed by some organization and not by a virus. But because there were so many people dead, it would have to be an enormous organization that couldn't hide. That made them suspect someone has something that can kill from the distance without contact. So L prepared the broadcast and found out that the first victim wasn't globaly known and was known just in a small area. So he targeted the broadcast there first. The broadcast was arranged by L with people he trusts so he was confident there wasn't a leak.
