It's generally held that lightning doesn't strike twice.
I absolutely hate how some crummy video game can be so shitty and gooey and comfy and holy FUCK WHY ARE THEY SO CUTE TOGETHER? STOP MAKING ME WANT A GIRLFRIEND YOU FUCKING NIPS!
>Figure out this game has a love story
>Gotta play it, I'm a sucker for that shit
>The world building and laid-back-but-still-intense storytelling hooks me like a retarded fish and I speak to everyone in town every time I so much as go one step forward in the plot
>In the end it's also one of the greatest love stories I've ever experienced
Magical series. I've put off Cold Steel ever since I found out they turned the series into harem shit. Excited for 3rd this spring.
Oh, and I also got a secret OTP on the side. The first game I was like "Are they doing what I think they're doing? Nah". Then the second game hit and I was like "HOOOOOOOOOOO MY HEART".
I think I kinda owe this series a revisit. I actually played FC on the PSP but lost interest in the franchise after Xseed took five billion years to translate SC.
Sometimes I get the urge to pick up and play them both but then I realize The Third is still not out and I am not sure I am willing to play that waiting game again.
Maybe, it's just the way she talks about it that it makes it seem as nothing to her, when it's a fact that she idolized Joshua.
Then again, it would definitely be in her character to act as if she had no idea what it was and use it to fuck with Estelle.
He's a strong guy. He can hold out.
>Keep talking to all NPCs just to check if that one wife and daughter who got sent by the husband to work on a stand in the city's shopping all is doing ok with the husband who strayed in the village, or that one lady who got good at fishing because her husband wasn't paying attention to her and instead wanted to fish just to spite him
The world building is excellent in this. I did hear there was an OVA but i also heard that it's absolute fucking shit.
I haven't played it myself, but from what i hear on it, it's excellent. We also get to see
Estelle and Joshua, and they even join your party for the last boss of Zero. I think Oliver also pops up in it, but not on Ao.
So when is that manga with Loewe getting translated?
Cold Steel keeps up the level of worldbuilding and has a pretty interesting political narrative, but yeah the character interactions take a huge hit due to the Persona-esque format they take. It's really telling when some of the background school characters are more memorable then members of the main cast.
If you can find it for a decent price, I'd say it's still worth playing, especially if you are the type who appreciates the persistent worldbuilding between games.
The idea that all of Ouroboros activities in all of the regions are culminating into some major shit that's probably going to happen in the series finale, or at least this saga's finale is really nice.
Did trails of cold steel already display them doing one of their major events in that region? Or has Ouroboros yet to do anything super crazy.
Yeah, you can, but one is pushed way harder than the other ones, which gets annoying.
>Implying Estelle didn't tame him completely by now
Can't have him running away again, so she has to give incentive.
>Implying they aren't pretending to be two steps behind
>Implying losing wasn't also another ticket to victory either way
They appear to lose in the end, only for the main thing they were looking for in a certain region to come into their possession. Grandmaster has some "plan" and clearly he doesn't give a shit if a few losses happen as long as the main objective is acquired.
Plus there's still the third game in the same region coming out, so we may see them fucking shit up again.
The twirl Sharron does with her maid uniform is criminal
>Expecting Kiseki shit to get translated, ever
Come now anon.
>TFW finishing FC for the first time and having to wait for the sequel
Luckily i finished it around the time it would take about a year to see the sequel. I can't even imagine what it must have been like for the people who finished it way back when it came out on the PSP.
Sharron was easily my favorite CS2 party member. Hopefully she makes a guest appearance in CS3 and bullies Duvalie some more.
>Evil chest gives a me protip on the fact i can hide a body inside of it
These chest messages are fun. Do they still happen in Cold steel?
Sharon was fantastic at cleaning mobs. I suppose if there's one thing Sen did well it was making mob battles less tedious.
This is not a Ys thread. Also, sucking off a localisation company on /a/ isn't the best idea.
I'm sorry I'll get to it this week.
This is why the Erebonia arc is by far the weakest. Pic related.
I just want to see an anime adaptation of Magical Girl Alisa
Something about Trails in the Sky. I want to like it and I genuinely enjoy the story and all that jazz but something in me is keeping me from really "loving" all of it. I guess it's so predictable in its early anime tropes for me to really appreciate it anything more than it already is.
>the SC OVAs will never not be garbage outside of a couple of fun goofs they threw in
>Randy will never be your Aniki
Why even live?
Hello anon, i seem to be stuck on top of this dangerous tower. Would you mind escorting me out?
I honestly did not expect the twist at all.
Any sort of inconspicuous person who shows up in dangerous areas all alone and acts that he's completely unable at fighting while also showing up in key points in the series leads to nothing but trouble.
Arc the Lad taught me that
SC wasn't predictable. Nor was 3rd. Zero I'll give you for the most part but its sequel was one of the most off-the-rails JRPGs ever. Only FC and the recent Sen arc have been stereotypical and predictable.
>You will never have a loli welcoming you home after a long day at work
Time to leave this world.
Why not? Highschool is where you meet the most people that are in their most sensitive stage like you, have the least restraint and a common stage when one starts to develop as a person. What you do in highschool is greatest influence of what you'll be in the future. College/Employment and above are automatically out of the question since that's when your beliefs and goals are mostly set in stone
Red or blue?
Falcom pulled the "glasses NPC is antagonist" twice, and twice I fell for it. Machias is the final boss mark my words.
Common sense taught me not to trust the slant-eyed motherfucker in any game ever.
But I did like how he revealed himself
>oh yeah Joshua thanks for feeding us all the info we needed
>you gave us everything away while asleep, don't mind it much, it's not like you can help it, we trained you that way after all
>anyway, we have no more use for you so feel free to do whatever you want from here, see ya
>Eccentric phantom man who plays around can bind shit by hitting their shadows with knives, including stuff that's in the air
>Edgy man one shots entire party without trying while i'm struggling against giant worms
I'm only at chapter 3, but the power gap is ridiculous. Unless they get some miracle power up i don't see how they're gonna beat these guys.
>the chest messages where something special by XSeed that took advantage of how Falcom programmed "the chest is empty" message
>we'll never get to despoil chests in the future again
Your party is pretty stacked, to be fair. Everyone besides Estelle is pretty powerful in-universe, so it isn't too far fetched to imagine that a large group of pretty powerful people can match up to a single Enforcer.
It's the people that makes it comfy, fellow Crossbellbro. KeA and Tio automatically make any place 300% comfier.
>College/Employment and above are automatically out of the question since that's when your beliefs and goals are mostly set in stone
Nothing about your beliefs and goals are set in stone unless your life is fortunately uneventful.
I assume there's plenty of people in the universe who are stronger or equally stronger than him right? He's not only good at fighting but also somehow able to assume how the enemy will act and shit.
How high does Cassius rank in general. Sword Cassius and Staff Cassius.
>Kiseki will never be as good as Zero/Ao again.
Doesn't Kevin also turn out to be some sort of fairly powerful entity on the third trails in the sky? I haven't played it, but i assume he wasn't aware himself. All i know is that including him, there's other 7 like it, and he's insanely strong to the point of being able to make some Enforcers look like fodder.
>Trails in the Sky The Third
>Zero no Kiseki fan translation
>Trails of Cold Steel 3
Is this the year of Kiseki?
Top 3 IIRC
I swear to god every time someone talks about the Crossbell games they treat them like they are the bee's knees.
I will be severely disappointed if they turn out not to be the bee's knees at this point.
I liked Cold Steel 1 for what it was, although that might be due to the fact that I went in with negative expectations thanks to /a/ and /v/ calling it the worst thing ever. I still don't get why Elliot's a playable character when he's just barely above NPC status.
Approx powertables so far would be:
Arianrhod, Ein and McBurn are all more powerful than Sword Cassius. After that things get a bit murkier because Arios and Sigmund and all that.
>No more Grimwood-sensei
This is why Kiseki is shit nowadays.
Who is the edgiest character in the series?
He's pretty up there. Arianrhod, Ein and McBurn are all stronger than him, but they are all seriously insane powerlevel wise. Cassius is definitely top 5 though.
He's so out of place it's comical.
Your party keeps recruiting stronger and stronger people. While game mechanics mean you only have four people with you at any one time, in reality, they're of course moving around and doing shit with the whole party. So by the time of the final assault on Ouroboros you've got:
>the Captain of the Royal Guard
>a princess extremly talented in healing and directly descended from the Liber Arc people
>a prince of one of the most powerful countries, personally trained by some of the strongest in that country, and extremely proficient in orbal arts
>personal guard of said prince
>an A-rank bracer who can cross fists with Enforcers
>two of the most promising up and comers in the Liberl Bracer Guild
>a "squire" of the Church's continental inquisitorial and anti-artifact secret organization
>a professor that can upgrade all their gear using ancient technology
>a Satellite Cannon
First and second are on PC and PSP, and third is being translated right now and will come out to PC and PSP too i believe.
And there's a remake made for the PS Vita i believe? Character portraits uses the artist for Zero and Ao, has voice acting and such. But it's not being translated as far as i'm aware.
He's a Dominion, agents of the Church that can deal with even the combat focused Enforcers. He can do some pretty neat shit in the 3rd.
At the very end of the second, we find out who he truly is, to Weissman's eternal saltiness
With the exception of Rean, Fie and Laura, Class VII is pretty much complete scrubs. Rean and Sara carry pretty hard, I guess, but they still have a good amount of dead weight.
>a Satellite Cannon
Metal Gear Tita was so great.
Was he autistic?
Pretty bad. Estelle's party was a ragtag gang of powerful people. Rean's team has children.
I haven't played Evo yet, but in Vanilla 3rd she pretty much carried.
Gaius was just as useless, if not even more so due to Rean taking his place as DPS. And it's not just Laura and Millium. Rean by himself takes 1/3 off bosses' HP instantly, there's just no competing with that kind of power. If Gaius had access to good Crafts like Randy, he would at least be a good utility character.
Anyone else scared that Ouroboros super secret plan is gonna turn out to be really weak by comparison to all the shit they did and "lost" to get to it?
Obviously it has to be some world wide scale shit, or maybe even beyond it. Kinda hope it's some sort of plan to take over the god and it's power or some shit.
Assuming the leader of Ouroboros is not Aidios, which i'm not even sure how that would be a thing.
Richard's speed reached absurd values.
He singlehandedly chopped up that fake dragon.
They haven't really lost much outside of Leonhardt and arguably Renne. Everything also seems to be going according to plan.
Rean is too busy delay locking bosses to act as a real dps for most of the the first game. Gaius is somewhat useful for that brief period of time when the team hasn't quite settled in as yet. Machias is a the opposite where he doesn't meaningfully contribute anything until the very end.
Granted its all kind of moot since the real damage dealers in CS1 for drawn out encounters are the mages abusing 0 CD.
No need to delay lock bosses when you can Tauros + Oni mode + Akatsuki. Machias at least has the AT Advance loop going for him.
True, but they really haven't lost yet. You could make a case for Ao I suppose, but
by then they were already focusing on Erebonia and the fallout was more to Crois than to Ouroboros.
Testarossa awakening, Osbourne living and stealing one of the Factories are all pretty big "NOT according to plan" shit for Vita at least. Considering their plans involve the Sept Terrions and there are two in Erebonia, a strong Osbourne who is hunting them is a pretty big blow.
Guns are really weak in the Kiseki universe
Schera + Richard AT abuse.
Have a bit of mercy will you?
>According to Vita
But that's exactly it, #3 thought things weren't going according to plan back in SC but clearly the Grandmaster anticipated all that.
A pistol actually, And justice. Don't forget justice.
Fucking comma instead of full stop, it's time for me to go.
No, there are only 2 additional characters introduced to the party roster. 4 if you count Muller and Julia.
>CS III has to introduce the other divine knights, tie up Rean's story line, fit in the mandatory Sept-Terrion drop among other things
Just how much shit are they going to cram in this game
>Gaius and the Dominion member
>Lloyd's little resistance
>Returning characters from Sora arc
>Olivier and West Erebonia
Holy fuck. If they pull this off this will be on Ao's level of gameplay time.
>stop playing this and play some actual games, like FFXV.
I hope the guardian in the Nord Highlands does something in CS III.
Is there any more canonical romance in Zero/ao and cold steel? Estelle and Joshua was cute, but all i know about Zero and Ao is that you play as a detective dude, and that cold steel is like "social links".
>make Rean a harem protag
>but his scenes with Alisa are blatantly biased
>yet he's still a harem protag, so can't develop the rest unless it's around him
>other relationships end up suffering from it
CS was a mistake
>literally equal number of male and female class members
Could have been nice if they had better dynamics with each other.
Yeah, the harem bullshit was a mistake.
God what this game had done to me. I had an assignment where I had to put two random streets for a fake business and I named them Liberl and Erebonia.
I also named the fictional business Valimar
You get to pick these so-called "bond" scenes, but they are just scenes that expand on each characters' backstory and isn't really focused on love. For example, you can choose to hang out with Randy and talk about his past or talk to Tio about Epstein. Only Elie's scenes are romance-based, so you can consider it to be the only canon pairing.
It'll continue becoming a Persona clone. Sen 3 hype and all that, but romance options will continue being a thing, and social links will continue being a thing.
The problem really isn't the dumb harem waifu bullshit for me; it's fine on its own. Persona for example does it well because it's made to incorporate those elements naturally. The problem with it in the Kiseki series is that it negatively impacts character development and restricts storytelling.
Never. Get the Japanese version and learn to moonrune.
If Class VII and SC's final party had to fight the other's final boss gauntlet, could they handle it? I feel this fucker would solo everyone in Class VII, including all the backup they got.
He'd take them apart far too easily. If Dubarry could take them on by herself then he'd just slaughter them. Better off asking if the SSS could fight him on even terms.
One of 3rd's many highlights.
The harem thing just doesn't work in a series that spans multiple games. You have a ton of characters to work with, so don't shoehorn them into some social link bullshit. That stuff is better in isolated games like Persona.
Playing through CS2 was kind of a chore because the characters just didn't have dynamics that are worth caring about since they're all reserved for snowflake Rean.
Tales games may have shit stories, but I like to think they're the gold standard when it comes to writing decent character dynamics.
Basically this. The continuity gets fucked up by the harem choices, and character development goes to shit. Sen really is a shit arc.
Oh please, anyone who thinks they won't end up together are in denial and are probably normalfags who can't stand loli shit.
Compare anything from the previous arcs to the designs in Sen and you'll find the latter lacking. But pre-transformation McBurn for me was alright. Post-transformation felt a bit too edgy.
>a Kiseki thread on /a/
I approve. Who learning Japanese for Crossbell and CS3?
Anon-kun, what if I told you you could hear Renne in her full glory over four (!) different games? Would that make it easier for you to make up your mind?
>Kiseki has an anime
The shit we can throw on /a/ nowadays without getting nuked. I guess neo-/a/ isn't all that bad.
Olivier is fantastic to hear in the games. The scenes where he switches from goofy to serious are the best. Oh, and he sings his bloody theme song on the NG+ menu. With actual lyrics.
Please leave /v/ memes at the door. We're pushing it as it is with this thread.
Would legitimately be interested actually,
but then again he's so irrelevant to the current plot it probably won't happen.
>Literally assassinated the prime minister of a nation
>Basically kickstarted the entire civil war
>Several of his plans would have killed his classmates had they been slightly less lucky
And the entire game, Class VII and the rest were talking about "bringing him back" and "wanting to graduate with him". What the fuck? If they actually managed to capture him, why the fuck wouldn't he be executed or locked up for life?
>But pre-transformation McBurn for me was alright
I can't take his design seriously at all. As it is, it's way to busy and garish. For a character who's not supposed to care about anything, his design is extremely tryhard/busy/garish; if it looked more slovenly and less kept it'd be tolerable.
He's even doing Chuuni hand in his S-craft portrait.
Arianrhod = Ein = McBurn (all of me) > Cassius (sword) >= Loewe = Arios = Sigmund = Victor > Cassius (stick) > Kevin > Rixia >= Zane = Walter = Renne = Rean (Valimar) = Wazy > Duvalie > Mueller = Rufus >= Sharon = Bleaublanc >= Joshua (sneak attack) > Rean (oni) > Crow >= Sara = Claire > Agate = Schera = Toval >= Joshua (no sneak attack) > Olivier > Estelle >= Laura = Fie = Rean > Lloyd
So we all agree that Oliver is both best and worst boy, right?
/a/ doesn't use these newfriend.
He looks fine like that, especially if he's the counterpart to Arianrhod. Forms a good foil if anything. It's the tattoos and weird eyes that get me when he transforms.
>No Randy and Shirley
We never see this guy do shit, but he should be somewhere between Ein and Kevin, right?
I seriously need more Oliver fanart. I was so sad when he left the party, he was my most powerful character. Thank god I could use him for the final area.
Altina is totally the new main girl of Sen3, right?
To be fair, I can sort of understand their logic for localizing Sen first. Since Zero and Ao are both available on PC, they can always localize it later and still have an available audience. Whereas if they don't localize Sen now, then PS3/Vita audience will be pretty much irrelevant in a year.
The only issue is that XSeed might not even bother localizing Zero anymore depending on sales of 3rd.
Maybe after TC comes out, we'll get Z/A
I actually want to try Sen but fuck me, I hate breaking through the time-line. Plus I'm curious as hell how the Sora crew end up and perform.
I main Estelle, Joshua, Oliver, and Kloe. I like Agate but prefer having people who can use magic. I used him for his story related bosses though. Anything else feels like cockblocking.
The problem though is that Zero and Ao get spoiled almost completely by Sen, and parts of Sen do need knowledge of what happened in Crossbell because of how the games run concurrently. This just ruins the games for Sen secondaries, regardless of how they try to justify it.
It's worth the wait. Besides, Sen isn't even that good.
Come now anon, unless you're fighting Leonhardt in SC or the bullshit Cassius fight in 3rd, you don't need her.
>tfw this thread will die and we won't get another great Kiseki thread for several weeks
True. I think if we count Wazy and Rixia in, they can definitely push him to his limits. Maybe even kill him if Wazy releases Akashic Arm at the right moment.
Shitposing on /a/ is easier though. Here, have an Olivier.
>fighting Renne on Nightmare mode
>I hold in my hand the chalice of heaven
Fuck you Renne
You'd love Alfin too. His
imoutopicks up his personality.
Top fucking Kek. Josette can go home though.
>tfw there will never be a doujin of Estelle/Kloe/Joshua doing erotic roleplay based on the play.
The whole "bring back Crow" thing made no sense anyway. It was a weak attempt to do something similar to the Joshua arc in SC and the Randy arc in Ao.
In short, no. You can also unlock every scene in one playthrough if you're savvy enough.
>using tita in SC
>hardwork sorta but I like using loli
>get to chapter 7
>suddenly I'm punished for using her to the point where she pretty much isn't playable
I think my endgame party for FC was Joshua Estelle, Agate, and Olivier
And SC, Joshua, Estelle, Kloe Olivier
>Using Tita at all before Gundam upgrade in 3rd
This is what you get for choosing the inferior loli.
If you think about it, the two guys Klose fell in love with all left her for someone else (Joshua for Estelle, Lechter for Osborne). At least she'll have that bird of hers for company though.
Lewding a royal family member is capital punishment
I wouldn't say I hated it. Setting, worldbuilding, and side characters were good. But the main cast was largely a huge step down from Sky's, and the bonding and harem system was a hugely terrible in comparison as well.
>Not lewding Alfin
That's asking the impossible anon.
You say that but Oliver is himself! He was made to lewd, whether his is the lewder or the lewded. I cannot imagine a sibling who takes after him to be any different!
You see, this is why Sen was a mistake.
It's a good JRPG as it is, but accepting lesser quality from Falcom when they've shown to be able to hit heights far above Sen? Especially after SC and Ao and now Ys VIII?
>/a/ has better Kiseki threads then /v/
Why would god be doing all of this though?
>Lost all her powers and has to gather the dragon b-, seven treasures in order to reclaim it
>Is sick of humanity's shit so she decides it would be fun to act like a human shit with her plan
>Wants to do an evangelion, but for some reason being god is not enough and she needs the treasures.
There's no bullshit behind the scenes shit going on with the church claiming all the powerful artifacts and such, is there?
The church being an evil organization is sure a tired concept i would welcome it if they weren't doing shady shit.
Or is this series safe, and they're actually just trying to prevent misused of powerful stuff?
Kevin and Thomas are on the level, but who knows what Aidios thinks. Though Ouroboros is evil enough already without throwing the freaking church in, which like the real life church is the only thing that preserved civilization after the collapse of the ancients.
They're pretty shady but most of the members are well-intentioned. They're not above doing some dirty work though.
I prefer Eidos because Aidios just fucks up how it's supposed to be pronounced. It's supposed to be A-dos, as in alphabet A.
At least from what we've seen of the Gralsritter and the higher up priests, the church seems to be ultimately benevolent.
Although, I'd be alright with factional in-fighting within the church, with some factions being more benevolent and others being more corrupt. Mostly since Trails doesn't seem to shy away from utilizing reasonably realistic politics
Not necessarily. I mean,
Weissmanwas a priest. There's definitely some faction in-fighting going on, especially with the Crossbell priest banning Dominion members from entering his territory. It's nothing we'll see anytime soon though.
You know surprisingly enough, we don't get nearly enough information on the church, which is odd considering how powerful it is.
You think there will be a subplot thrown into CS3 regarding Eidos?
I'm close to the end of my 2nd play through of CS II. Got all the Black Records as well. I really want to read them.
Might do a 3rd play through eventually for nightmare and some other trial chests monsters I forgot to scan. And other trophies I missed.
I'll try to finish before the 3rd comes out.
There's enough in Sen 3 that needs to be covered without dragging in the church. I think Falcom is slowly building up towards the Alteria arc and won't reveal any deep dark secrets until we get there.
True, but I think it has more to do with how he's
affiliated with Ouro. Leaking information and doing Stigma experiments while siding with the so-called heretics is a big no-no, and I can see why they went all-out against him.
He was supposed to be a defense-oriented fighter who excelled at debuffs/status effects, but defense means nothing in CS and it's far too easy to cover all the debuff/statuses using the other OP characters. Even his Schera-esque turn manipulation craft isn't worth using cause other characters can manipulate turn order just as well with Delay.
Well, we saw a model for Barkhorn in CS3, so it's likely between him and Thomas there's going to be some Church shenanigans going on.
Calvard arc next apparently.
He would honestly be great in Ao, especially since he can then loop AT Advance with Elie. But in Sen the power-creep was too much.
I want to believe this is bait but I just can't know for sure.
Probably just Gaius Dominion stuff at this point, nothing too shady yet.
Nightmare is the benchmark we usually throw around anon. You can clear the game on Normal with Josette and Tita, but it doesn't really mean much.
Arios Maclaine. Crossbell character, a Hachiyou practitioner said to be on par with Cassius. Uses the second style, Hayate. Pic related.
I honestly want to know what broke him
Being Toby is suffering.
Mura Hayate is both edgy and cool, I don't know what to think.
In an odd departure from literally every other RPG ever, the Septian Church appears to be a source of good in the world and working towards noble goals despite some questionable shady background dealings. Of course this can change in the future but for now it's a pretty welcome breath of fresh air.
It's called autism ESL-kun, and it's not the good kind either.
In Eidos name, I want to plow Sara.
I just looked this up quickly. I guess the 3rd will explain more. I won't spoil myself for that yet.
>not linking Unfathomed Force
Alright. There's a scene in 3rd where they clear things up regarding the various factions' movements in SC, and if I remember correctly Weissman's past is explained there.
Why bother to line up anon? She dual wields.
