Why is Anime and Manga so popular in Latin America?
because it's another distraction from the reminder that you will be living in this shithole forever, like alcohol or drugs.
>>154803900
was on national television
It's popular all around the world. Remember those threads were Arabs like them too?
The biggest weeb country is france for some reason.
>>154803900
The indigenous people of Latin America are basically Asian, so...
>>154803900
We got faithfull distribution and translations for over a decade.
Not like murricans with their own version of a censored footage.
Basically, we got quality over quantity.
All while being on prime time in TV.
>>154804753
Please elaborate
Why is Anime and Manga so popular in the Philippines?
>>154804951
>>154804951
Everything that gets licensed for sale outside of eastern asian, always gets a french release, sometimes before all the other non-asian countries.
Also, french animation is inspired by anime.
>>154804951
This comes to mind.
>>154804850
I think it goes far back really. Iw as born in the mid 80s, yet even older folk remember seeing old shit like umi no triton, tiger mask, gekko kamen, Comet-san, etc on TV.
>>154805012

>>154803900
They speak in tongues or whatever, and they don't have anyone with talent among any of their nations to make their own media that people would actually want to watch, so everything needs to be dubbed or subbed. Anime and cartoons are some of the easier things to dub. Live action is a motherfucker to dub in a believable fashion.
>>154805264
>They speak in tongues or whatever
what
>>154805295
>Glossolalia or speaking in tongues, according to linguists, is the fluid vocalizing of speech-like syllables that lack any readily comprehended meaning
>>154805012
Cat's Trail anime when?
>>154805345
yes, what has that to do with anything
>>154805252

No, that guy is this guy.

I was making fun of their shitty language. I assume you're one of them, because clearly you're retarded as well.
Escapism.

>>154805435
Probably shouldn't be on an American image board then. Then again, its Japanese now so whatever.
>>154805264
Are you talking about america?
>>154805486
Latin America, yeah.
>>154805496
I meant USA
>>154805252
wey get those fb normalfag memes off muh 4chin
>>154805435
Which anime you Russians guys get on tv? Did you guys get Russian ranma or something?
I really want to know
>>154805264
There's talent, but they aren't willing to take risks when a uninspired rehash of a foreign reality show/soap opera shot on a shoestring budget and laden with product placement will still rake up cash.
>>154804850
this
america got shafted hard
anything we got was cut down if it was on TV, like it was all for kids because cartoons!
we didn't get stuff like manga for a good while, probably 1997 or so.
its why mexico has the hardest boner for saint seiya. even the fucking PS4 game got a fucking mexidub with the OG cast. when was the last time anyone cared to give mexican dubs ANY favor?
>>154805548
MAKE ME PUTO
>>154805777
Can't make you a puto, you're already one ;^)
No local cartoons to compete against. Local TV stations could show either american or japanese cartoons. The japanese cartoons with their long stories with a lot of melodrama and plot twists are more popular in latÃn american market over the episodic content where every episode doesnt matter at all from american cartoons. The Simpsons was the most popular american cartoon because it has a plot.
SoL anime is not popular in latin america.
Tl.dr version: anime is 2d telenovelas
>>154805754
Zelda Breath of the wild got Mexican dub
>>154804850
Correct.
Relative violent/sexual shit was in public TV at prime times.
As far as I remember the only thing that was censored were exposed breasts from stuff like Ranma and even then the censorship was kinda shitty and some stuff still went to air.
Not to mention the god tier dubbing faithful to the originals.
Unsurprisingly some shit lately has been translated from the castrated American versions making them fairly unpopular for obvious reasons.
>>154805815

>>154805827
Ranma wasn't censored in Mexico
>>154803900
Isn't it as popular in other countries? spics are juts more scandalous. And huge nostalgiafags.
>>154805894
>>154805946
I dont remember shit, I will ask my dad or sister
>>154805894
There were some scenes that were removed (no black bars) but as I said, they were small, irrelevant and at some point the censors stopped giving a fuck and things just went by.
>>154804850
Pretty much this. In peru we got Evangelion on prime time. Yeah moms complained but by then the whole thing had already aired.
>>154805808
>No local cartoons to compete against
Cantinflas Show mang.
>>154803900
OPs actually used the music from the show.
>>154805946
I think I actually caught glimpse of a nip on one of the bathhouse episodes lmao.
GS Mikami and Dragon ball just had a bit of groping scenes removed.
The redubs from american versions where usually censored, too. Sakura Taisen had some awfully obvius cus made here and there.
>>154805968
At its height DBZ got better ratings that divegrass and soap operas (that is, quite a fucking lot).
>>154805808
Can confirm, my mom liked to watch Candy Candy
>>154806564
I saw plenty of nipples in Ranma back then, they didn't censor shit.
>>154805012
Wasn't Culture Crash responsible for Alodia Gosiengfiao?
>>154803900
>Why is Anime and Manga so popular in Latin America?
Because it started airing in public television since the 70s.
One of the first regions in the West, along with France, Italy and Spain.
Why the early adoption? Not sure.
>>154806694
My guess is that they were cheaper licenses since the japanese always seemed to consider exports as just a little extra yen when it comes to anime. And wholesone yet dramatic and engaging shit like the world masterpiece series weren't too foreign.
>>154803900
So, is it safe to be a weeb in Mexico? Do you need a higher power level to be considered a weirdo.
>>154806836
If you used the word weeb in front of me I would punch you in the face
>>154806836
you can even talk about dbz with the dude who drives the bus so, yeah
>>154803900
They were telenovelas for kids and young adults. Also even grandparents watched stuff like speed racer so you could enjoy some shows with your family. Sure if you show them stuff like Madoka or an Izekai series they'd slap you but they can endure old school mechas and shonen.
>>154806836
>>154806836
Hell no
everyone is a normie here, even the women that are weeabs must do gigantic efforts to hide their powerlevel
you're only allowed to talk about DBZ
>>154806946
t. provinciano mugroso
>>154806836
While most people over 25 probably grew up watching anime on TV... it's still advisable to keep it down a little.
Even weeb chicas go for macho mexichads lmao.
>>154806946
>you're only allowed to talk about DBZ
It's kind of like Pokemon Go.
People who didn't give a shit about it in the 90s suddenly felt nostalgic about it.

Mexican state television and Japanese state television started cooperating in technical matters since the 60's, eventually cooperation extended into licensing their content in the 70's
>>154806836
You dont need to hide shit wherever you are from
>>154805805
S A V A G E
Right now in Mexican public tv there is like 3 anime airing
Dragon ball
Candy Candy
Kindaichi Shounen no Jikenbo Returns
>>154803900
Because anime plots are just cartoon soap operas, and anime fights are just cartoon lucha wrestling.
Prove me wrongProtip : you can't
>>154807265
No, it's true, they are just better than the mexican version.
>>154806836
Only some shows get a pass in a casual conversation. Mainly 90's shit. And that also goes for non chinese cartoons. You'd get still end up in a weaboo circle if you watch modern anime, like this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d46RacdV_RU
But nodoby gives a shit in college so it's fine. Don't try to hide your fetishes.
>>154804753
True.
More to the point, why is Saint Seiya the big one in Spanish speaking countries?
>>154807009
no worries, man. Once someone went through that.
>>154804753
They love Saint Seiya more.
>>154803900
The grow of private TV and the need for cheap contents.
That's how happened in Europe too.
>>154806836
Just don't expect to find anyone with decent powerlevel, the best you will find is shonen and sports fags.
>>154803900
It's the only thing that is pure compared to the rest of the shit they deal with.
>Bulgarian
>most people I've talked about anime in the past seem to have a loose bolt (people with penchant for violence - the kind that carry knives in school, druggies) and they don't even have a decent powerlevel, they were into shonen like Death Note, Bleach, FMA.. I reckon they were probably watching JoJo and Drifters recently
>normal people immediately jump to conclusions; most often "detski" - children's cartoons, or "hentai shit" - it's either one or the other
Will I never find somebody relatively normal who likes things like New Game and Non Non Biyori? God, why wasn't I born in Mexico? At least people are somewhat accepting there.
>>154807960
Came in at the right time. And the figures were the hot toy for a while.
>>154803900
spics
>>154803900
Because they had less US instigated anti-japanese propaganda than a lot of other countries.
I know I'm French, and I was raised with the idea that Japanese people are barely human.
The good thing is that I left France for Japan and am changing nationality this year.
>>154808409
But it's more or less the same situation here. Normies will rarely accept cgdct shows.
>>154805815

Not touching that shit even with a ten-foot pole.
Even though the acting sounds really good.
>>154808409
I always carried a knife in school and love Non Non and other similar shows, and watched the so called shonen shit you hate
>>154803900
we had a fucking awesome anime block back in the 90's with top notch dubs
>>154808409
>That wonderful feeling when I was introduced to anime by a guy I knew IRL and we love the same exact shit and discuss who is best girl in a given CGDCT
Feels good man.
>>154804753
When I went to Paris I tried to track down a manga shop, turns out there's a whole avenue right by Notre Dame cathedral with weeb shops- anime, manga, hentai, figures, games, you name it.
Lucky enough to be there too when the Eva x Japanese swords exhibit was up. They def got a market for that stuff there.

I was like 5 or 6 years old when they aired Ranma 1/2 and some o f the episodes had no censorship at all. Keep in mind that it was treated as a cartoon and it would begin right after a looney toons episode ended.
>>154803900
It's probably as popular as in any other place, but the average powerlevel that most people are willing to show is higher, so it seems more popular.
>mfw in my country your friends will mock you for "not having a childhood" if you haven't watched the most entry level shit like DBZ, Saint Seiya and Pokemon
>>154809419
Here something that will trigger 99% of latin american, jp goku >> dub, jp DB >>>>>>>>> dub.
>>154809732
Is that supposed to trigger me?
So from what I gathered from this thread its because spics are a bunch of degenerate monkeys that broadcast ecchi and haremshit on their television stations because fuck it who cares they're all going to have 10 kids by 14 anyways
>>154809675
I really never liked DB when I was younger and only watched it when I was a full fledged anon, I always mock my "friends" for prefering the dub with shit like "supremo kaiosama" or "VegUeta".

It happens on most cases.
>>154804753

>>154809899

Why are school uniforms fetishized?
Is it because people's minds make the connection that whoever wears a school uniform is bound to be young
Does liking school uniforms make me a lolicon?
>>154810290
Yes, to be honest I never felt anything about them until the japanese pointed it out for me
>>154810290

First pretty uniforms, then Buruma and School Swimsuits.
It's over, turn yourself in before you hurt a fictional character.
>>154810290
>Why are school uniforms fetishized?
I guess when we enter puberty we start looking at girls sexually and since the first ones we see wear uniform we keep the good memories and associate with it.
At least that's my case.
