ARC-V was better about making every episode feel important for the purpose of furthering its plot for a majority of its run. It failed to actually matter in the end, but it did make the eps feel like they were progressing shit when they were airing, which is absolutely essential for the purpose of assuring the audience that they aren't entirely wasting their time on superfluous filler. This is a major problem that zexal has, since surrounding stuff like IV's introduction is garbage like the construction kid duel or the soccer duel, which are among the most agonizing eps of YGO I can think of off the top of my head. Ultimately, this made ARC-V a far less painful experience in the moment to moment shit than zexal typically was.

I won't deny Zexal's problem with basically the equivalent of Jojo Stands as duels but in exchange we actually had duels that meant something. It's true that Zexal II's duels can get tedious and predictable but can you honestly say anything memorable about some of these duels we've been having since Synchro? Especially the big ones? Hope was a generic rank 4 and easier to summon than anything else imaginable.

The original manga is excellent. Anyone who calls themselves a YGO fan owes it to themselves to read it.

GX is very good. It's an improvement over the anime in many aspects and worth checking out.

5Ds is the odd one out. The manga isn't very good compared to its anime counterpart. You're not missing much here by not reading it. Only read it if you're a 5Ds fan.

ZEXAL in my opinion is overall better than the anime and worth checking out. I think the story flows better and the characters portrayals are better than in the anime.

ARC-V remains to be seen. It's interesting for the time being and the characters aren't as insufferable as in the anime, the plot also seems a lot more interesting too so I would check it out.

You do realize there are plenty of good decks that don't rely on the extra deck right? Kozmo, Infernoid, Mermails, Lightsworn, Dinos, etc. Their speed is largely unaffected by the new format rules so you can easily die while you try to get out your link monsters.
