The original was it's own work

The live action is backed by Disney, had a popular actress (who just happens to be a Marvel film star as well, Marvel comics are owned by Disney) thrown in the main role and has pre-release things like a cheesy promotion that pretypes things like "I am a positive leader in my community. I Am Major." when you go to it.

No one's going to leave the theater with anything, it's Disney wanting another potential franchise to milk.
