Why wasn't this show more popular? It was tense, it criticised capitalism and the futility of the struggle between the proles and the bourgeois, it should have had more of an impact...
>>154653520
The noses. No, really. The noses.
>Why wasn't this show more popular?
Are you actually fucking high?
Nobody fucking watches anime for deep thoughts and meaning you mongoloid.
It's all about tits, asses and cute girls (occasionally about boys dressing as cute girls).
>>154653534
If anything the noses add to the charm.
Oh fuck me man, it shouldn't be possible for shows that have "wierd" artstyles to be popular
I mean the noses weren't even that prominent in the second season
S3 when?
>>154653520
Had pretty good threads when it came out and mutliple stickies when the OST's released
I have not seen a FKMT thread in years though, i think this board went to shit around the time posting naruto wasnt bannable anymore.
>>154653564
not now
Do you have anything to say besides infantile ad hominems?
>>154653566
I watch anime for deep thoughts and meanings.
Also, is Akagi worth it?
>>154653629
anime is the fun whacky hyperactive low budget cousin of western entertainment now.Just add some "deep and dystopian" plot and you are set for success even if you copy paste characters from other popular animus.
There is simply no place for deep, patrician anime anymore in the industry. This is why you will never see s3...
>>154653660
Well no fuck it isn't popular now. Do you know how many years ago it aired?
Stupid fuck.
>>154653703
Not sure what the fuck you're talking about but the reason season 3 wont happen is because the composer is/was in prison and will never work again. That and there isn't a movie to advertise. They already made S3 pachinko.
Also part 3 isnt good, especially if it were an anime.
>>154653727
Why so angry?
I know how many years ago it aired you light headed moron. Madoka aired in 2011 and yet people talk about it.Your point is idiotic. Please don't reply again.
>>154653566
Really, first girl characters appear only in part 3. And that one isn't even animated.Mikoko doesn't count
>>154653774
well yeah, so far it ain't in the same level as the first 2 parts were, but they could "rush" through it.Although it wouldn't "feel" the same and woul eventually alienate the few fans this series has.
Oh I didn't know about the composer's sentence. This answers some questions, what did the fucker do?
I twon't happen 'cause Nipponese culture is dead, its all about cute girls and "deep" plots now
Retinal art.
>>154653874
>I twon't
>>154653774
Part 3 would be way more fun as an anime. Worked for Akagi
>>154653828
he had some pot on him
serious crime in japan
>>154653931
They could go full evil and stretch out the plot with Mikoko for a couple of episodes for those comedic hilarities that would surely occur
>>154653940
that explains the ZAWAZAWAZAWAAA
also fuck niponnese weed attitude
DUDE
ZAWA
LMAO I miss old kaiji threads
>>154654307
is kaiji gar
>>154653774
So you are telling me the show has no ending and is unfinished. Ok thank you for saving me the time, now i know to never pick it up.
>>154654837
Tbh, season 2 ends on somewhat happy note for Kaijisomeone even did something to him NOT for the sole purpose of screwing him overand you can kind of end story right there.
But you should stop being a complete fucking scrub and pick up manga.
>>154653520
>that communist rhetoric
Autism
This show was incredibly popular on /a/ in 2007/8, were you just not here back then?
>>154655428
Who are you quoting?
>>154655428
>implying that the undertones weren't extremely obvious
Hyodo was a parody of the bored, rich entrepreneur that is bored out of his mind.
Heck how can you miss that the whole show is a parallel of the struggle between classes and the futility that it entails?
Maybe I am reading to deep into this, but it was easy to reach such a conclusion. It was surely intended up to some degree
And my rhetoric wasn't "red" at all.
>>154655443
I was on /a/ from 2008, you are somewhat correct in that this show had way more discussion than it does now.Heck Half the reason of this thread was to see if anyone that lurked back then was still here. You can call me a liar if you wanna.
I distinctly remember this show having low sales and most of /a/ was complaining about that.
>>154653629
There's been a lot of FKMT threads recently, actually.
>>154655557
Nah, you're right.
Kaiji is communist
>>154655861
>>154653520
It's slow as fuck.
I kind of dropped it after first season, maybe because of the slowness.
Fujos love kaiji/FKMT and there are still threads in /cm/ and /y/ every now and then.
>>154658015
>muh fujoshi
it really must suck to have autism.
>>154658151
That anon wasn't complaining
I've literally never been as angry at a manga protagonist as I have been at Kaiji at the end of part 3. Quit while you're ahead, you dumbass.
I'm glad I went back and finished S2.
What a ride.
>>154658355
This. I was basically saying in that post that kaiji is still fairly popular and that's where I see the most threads these days.
>>154658355
>>154658644
sorry it's just nowadays people like to throw around the word "fujo" without understanding the meaning.
>>154653981
agreed I was shocked that this was literally in the manga I didn't think they'd actually meet
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7F8xpgcw8oM
>>154653660
>using "ad hominem" as a fancy word for insult
>>154653520
>Why wasn't this show more popular?
It was and is very popular.
> it criticised capitalism and the futility of the struggle between the proles and the bourgeois, it should have had more of an impact.
What? Do you want some chinese cartoon to trigger widespread ideological trends?
>...
Fuck off.
>>154658571
>watching all the pachinko episodes with no breaks in between
who thought watching falling balls could be so tense
>>154653520
Kaiji was much better than akagi.
Let me offer two poor reasons.
1. Akagi looked like an anime beavis (subjective)
2. Akagi never seemed in danger of losing
bonus reason 3. Kaiji actually had things to say that resonated with me
It's popular in Japan, I'm not surprised if it isn't that popular in the West since there isn't much diversity in what is genuinely popular, at least with native English speakers.
One thing I do sometimes is watch Japanese livestreams of anime and Kaiji, as well as Akagi, are some of the most popular and viewed streams when they're on.
>>154653660
akagi is the embodiment of an introverted GAR character
>>154653520
because it didn't appeal to the "masses", satisfied now?
>>154653520
most people prioritize other things like sakuga, waifus/husbandos, OPs, EDs, OSTs, plot and self-insertion potential overdecision making.
>>154653520
The whole thing felt pointless and had no impact.
>>154653520
Kaiji is pretty popular. It's more popular than most other niche anime out there, it has a core fanbase and appeals to it. Might be just my circle of friends, but I know more people who love Kaiji than people who like watching sports anime for example.
Were you seriously expecting a gambling manga to reach insane, Jump levels of exposure? One published in a Seinen magazine no less?
I have a friend who loves Kaiji and he doesn't even really like anime. We binged S2 and the dude even thought about reading the manga. Fucking Kaiji man.
>that last Akagi chapter
I'm starting to believe that Washizu is genuinely in love with Akagi
>>154660706
>2. Akagi never seemed in danger of losing
just one example:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gwKtlMCQhKE#t=4m25s
and if you understand riichi mahjong (and thus, what the characters are doing), you can feel danger everytime, you can actively see what options are available to the characters everytime, decide what you would've done in their situation and then see what they've done instead (somewhat like spectating a game whose more optimal plays you're familiar with); then you'll see that Akagi and most other characters have a deep sense of the possibilities available to them, and Akagi also has access to the possibilities that require massive titanium balls, such as sacrificing points to hide information about himself, with only few rounds remaining, for example.
>>154653806
Fuck you, Mikoko is cute, CUTE!
>>154661589
I've played riichi a few times, but wouldn't consider myself proficient.
It's not about the mahjong, it's that I never thought for a second that akagi would lose.
That takes away most of the tension.
>>154653520
Kaiji is fucking great and the art style is amazing
>>154653520
The artstyle his horrible.
Outright painful to look at.
>>154663216
Well, I think most of the people that read mahjong manga know that Akagi is a prequel, so instead of trying to make situations that seems like he might lose, when obviously he can't because he's alive 40 years later, the author just decided to show off how amazing he is by never losing ever.
>>154663334
>>154663307
HE LOVEHATES IT
>>154663374
fair enough.
>>154663334
Fuck you banana hair is great.
Kaiji is actually straight up and I unironically kept reading Akagi for all those years of washizu before I opened up a new chapter in about early 2016 and literally gave up
Dont even remember what chapter or why I gave up somewhere along the line it just all blended together
>>154663490
What app can I stream it on?
I hope that with Akagi ending, it will get another season and hopefully Kaiji S3 and S5 will also get adapted.
>>154653520
>Why wasn't this show more popular? It was tense, it criticised capitalism and the futility of the struggle between the proles and the bourgeois, it should have had more of an impact...
>it criticised capitalism and the futility of the struggle between the proles and the bourgeois
Because of that.
Can we agree that the pachinko arc is the greatest pleb filter in the history of anime?
Should I start with Kaiji or Akagi?
>>154663911
Do you imagine Akagi S2 with 26 episodes of Washizu and Akagi? Watching the out-of-body Washizu experience animated would be hilarious.
>>154664243
Do you like mahjong more or just gambling in general? Akagi-pure mahjong Kaiji-all sorts of weird games
>>154664243
Akagi is better in my opinion, but it's harder to appreciate it. Start with Kaiji, it's easier to get in and if you like it, watch Akagi
>>154660886
Where can one find out about these japanese livestreams?
>>154653520
Some parts just feel excessively drawn out. Shit gets really old really fast.
