Kyoani is the master of making mediocre stories look visually amazing.

Maiddragon is actually charming & the attention to detail actually does the manga justice in a way that most studios would not come close too.

I'm a huge Kyoani fan and I wouldn't say they're the "best", they're just the one I feel deserve the most loyalty. I respect a lot of other studios and think they can make better stuff than KyoAni when they are given good projects, but I just enjoy KyoAni's stuff more consistently and I like how they put a lot of care into every thing they make. As usual with kyoani, the question is not whether the visuals will be breathtaking or whether the direction will be engrossing or whether the VAs will be top notch or whether the score will be pitch-perfect, kyoani has proven they can do all those things.

No, as usual with kyoani the question will be whether the subject matter is worthwhile. Everybody knows they do a fantastic job of improving upon source material, but since at least Haruhi that source material has been like 6/10 at best. So much of their stuff is in the sort of mindless fun category, and while shows like K-on and Tamako do a little more with it, how much can you really expect to get out of a light comedy? Their more dramatic stuff like Hibike and Hyouka is much more interesting, but just begs the question, what could they do with truly great source material? I contend they've never had any. Haruhi was obviously good, but probably half of what made the anime so great was kyoani's invention.

Long story short, if the source material was like 8/10 then this show is guaranteed an instant classic. If the source material was 6/10 then this show will be just another in the stable of really strongly competent but not quite incredible kyoani shows.

Personally, I'm pessimistic. I have a hard time believing that great source material exists in Japan. Imagine if kyoani adapted Snow Crash.
