It starts fun, then goes to shit over the course of volumes, then loses it's mind when the moon children are introduced.

The start was a bit rough because the MC gets trashed pretty hard and I really felt for him. But once he starts doing emblem battles the series comes into it's own. Shame it never fulfills it's promise and introduces stands later on.

The beginning is pretty fun, it's neat twist in "battle-shounen with a gimmick" and it doesn't take itself too seriously.
Then it gets batshit insane, the plot gets ridiculously convoluted with loads of character that pop in and out (including Obama), the power levels are turned to fucking eleven and it's hard to tell whether it becomes serious or if OhGreat takes things even less seriously.

Alternately, the anime only lasted for a short while and stops pretty early so you can try that instead if you don't want to get into 30+ volumes of rollerblade, particle physics, philosophy, borderline porn, freudian issues and political engineering

At the beggining it is incredibly fun, sports and shit. But then it turns into a ridiculous and boring battle manga. Loosing itself.

It's a weird manga, definitely not perfect or anything. But it was really fun and remains as one of my favourites to this day.

Ignore the naysayers and give it a try. Even if you don't like it, the art alone is worth a read.
