Not really. It's a super complicated term that has it's origins in the Middle-East, not Japan. It basically means Genie. Genie, or Djinn, can be good or evil, though the evil ones tend to be weaker.

Majin is a sort of Asian appropriation of the Djinn, but it's also important to note Toriyama based Boo off of the traditional Genie.

Viz tries so so hard to call the androids "cyborgs", but they don't seem to be able to just scrap the android dubism. Oh well.

It seems that whatever problems in Viz seems to come down to adaptation? It's interesting because Lilian Olsen did the translation for both this and Yu Yu Hakusho and Hunter X Hunter, the latter is regarded as the best English translation out there. I guess having Gary Leach on for adaptation rather than Gerard Jones made a big difference. Or maybe Olsen was new.

Piccolo uses "Ma Junior" as his alias in the Buu arc for the tournament. Demon King Piccolo also wears 魔 on his clothes.

The fact that Toriyama used Jin for the pronunciation of 神 is most likely intentional given the Arabian theme of Majin Buu's design, and Djinn being a mischievous spirit with Arabian roots.

And as everyone knows by now the villains of the Buu saga are named after magical phrases. With Boo's name being from Cinderella's Bibbidy Bobbidi Boo

Personally I don't feel Super is 'sloppier' than DB, I don't really see how you think that, either. The arcs are much tighter and focused, and there's always a sense of progression in the story. DB was often all over and the place and going absolutely nowhere in it's plot.
