The show not only nails sadness and dark emotions but I think it even portrays joy even better.

No matter how sad some of the scenes make me, the happy scenes are so much stronger.

There's something so wholesome about the entire thing.

I like Mushishi a lot, but it's really of a different paste than Rakugo. Rakugo has a stronger emphasis on the characters, and it does them such a good way, while Mushishi is more, how would I say, spiritual? It's quite peculiar in how it shows its stories, it's more about the feelings it invokes than the characters themselves, I think. Also the art and kinda slow direction it has all contributes to that.
But I'll say that I find myself more attracted by Rakugo's characters, their development and interactions than Mushishi, though they're both really great anime in my opinion.

The only things I thought were 10/10 personally were Kino no Tabi and Kemono no Souja Erin.
