Having spent the last couple months powering through everything Macross, what makes Sheryl so popular? I can't even begin to understand the appeal.
On that note, why was every girl without blue hair in Frontier so terrible?

I'm not entirely sure myself. I may be a Rankafag, but I didn't see much between the dramatic popularity difference in the two aside from what the plot demanded they be forced into in terms of challenges.
Sheryl is a tough girl, I guess, since she was a homeless orphan? Ranka is still young and inexperienced though, so she still needed room to grow as an adult and professional?

All in all, I just don't think too much about it. It tends to divide into the two camps for girls anyways.
