To make Big Mom feel threatening? We already had that moment when Luffy got fucking demolished by her army and when her powers were teased fighting Brook. Not to mention that Oda has yet to kill any character just to hype another, and Big Mom is obviously not going down this arc regardless with all her ties to Elbaf.

Just to protect Luffy and bring an end to his character? There's so any unresolved storylines surrounding Jinbe. He's was built up and established as a big future ally throughout the whole Summit War saga, foreshadowed heavily to join the crew in Fishman Island, and he's going to kick the bucket just as he's properly reintroduced into the story? The time for that has already passed, he hasn't been waving sacrifice death flags since the war.

Because he's old? He's far from the oldest guy on the crew, and he spent his golden days tying himself down as a Warlord and chasing Fisher Tiger's legacy. His own crew his pushing him to finally live his life and do something for himself for once. We know Luffy has to return to Fishman Island and bring salvation to the race anyway, it's already been predicted by Shyarly. Jinbe's motivations are about saving Fishman Island and breaking down the barrier between them and the humans on the surface. He should be there for that moment more than any other character.

This shits getting ridiculous. First Jinbe wouldn't join because he was too powerful. When that turned out to not be true the argument changed to "he's a captain, not a subordinate," but Jinbe's confirmed he has no desire to stay a leader. After that was "why would he leave Fishman Island?" When he actually left Fishman Island he's suddenly too old to join, or a traitor, because every other option is gone.

He's fucking joining.

Truth be told, I don't want anyone new in, but not for any "real" reasons like cast bloat or the composition or what role to fill, but because Brook is already in.
For the greater part of the manga, Luffy has been pretty random and unprepared about who he wants. He kind of runs into Zoro and decides he wants him in, same with Nami, Usopp and Robin, Sanji, Frankie and Chopper join out of a need that they find out about while venturing around the world.
The only position Luffy has said he wanted specifically from the very beginning and made throwaway lines about for literally hundreds of chapters was a ship musician. Thus, I kinda think it'd be kinda cool to have the musician be the last one to join the crew.

His job on the ship is being a Helmsman. He's showcased the skills to do it before, is a good fit for the position, we know the crew needs one at some point because Blackbeard also had one, and there's bonus thematic points because it'd partner him with Nami of all characters.

Since that's not a job that really matters when they're on an island, which is like 90% of the manga, he contributes to the group as a strategist and negotiator. One Piece and Futurama are so radically different in tone and genre that this comparison is pointless.

A dangerous, comically evil character isn't joining our group of beloved freedom fighters who will help save the world at the end of the story. He can stick around as a funny side character, Buggy hasn't gone anywhere either, but expecting him to be a part of the main team is ludicrous.

The closest the series has ever gotten to making the Straw Hats not undeniably the selfless heroes was at Impel Down, and even then the breakout of the dangerous prisoners wasn't done directly by him, but instead as a result of Blackbeard's meddling at the end.
