Kinda seems like important information that would have helped establish their relationship in the first place.

Why wasn't that in Volume 1 and then the Skeleton Knight shit could have been Volume 2?

Also, it's really weird, but with GX, the duels weren't always the most interesting, but the characters using various archetypes was always a fun thing to watch. So even though it was a bit more card game focused than story focused, I could appreciate the card games and the story they did provide was nice enough that I felt it worked.

Here, it just seems like everyone's using random cards for the most part rather than archetypes and that kind of makes me unengaged. I dunno why.

I liked the GX duels because not only did they have decks, but they also had people having internal monologues about what move they should make.
Like Reggie, we always saw her wondering if a face down was a bluff, or wondering what her opponent drew. Misawa did this too, and even Judai was always looking forward to a draw he needed.
They would slowly set up strats and we'd see their mindset for it. None of that is in this manga, it's just key play after key play after key play.

No wonder the previous OP quit his storytime. Unlike DM and GX, there's not much to discuss. It's not offensively bad or anything, it's just very boring
