What's the appeal of the 'childhood friend' archetype?
Long lasting bond.
Someone who has known you or has been with you from a tender age. Not quite like a sibling, but more than just a friend. Understands you or is comfortable with you, stays by your side, and is true to you. The dream of a lifelong bond with someone.
>people like incest because they don't have siblings
Why do people always assume that incest equals siblings stuff?
Not the same. Incest is tie by blood. You can feel any way about your family members, but you can't change reality. Childhood friendship is something that must grow and endure time and trial.
Both simply face the similar hurdle of transforming a very close non-romance relationship into a romantic one.
>Not the same
Right, childhood friend a shit in charge of ruining everything.
Can't ruin what was shit to begin with
Because that's something that no one else but you has with the person. When you're ugly, dumb, poor; at least you might be able to strike something up with someone you made happy decades ago.
The fact that you've already made it past the awkward and arguably hardest part of actually introducing yourself and getting to know each other well enough to be comfortable around each other.
