Reminder that there's an anime about this
MC looked like Light.
It's also Itoshiki-sensei's favourite book
>>154381752
It's also one of the most referenced books in anime & manga
Also its one of the most famous books from Japan
And its author is one of if not the most famous authors from Japan
>>154381752
Are there going to be more book adaptions of Aoi Bungaku?
>>154382186
>It's also one of the most referenced books in anime & manga
>implying
>>154381752
At least two if you count Bungaku Shoujio
>>154381752
Maybe it was just the translation, but I didn't like it very much. Was way to whiney. Notes from Underground was better if you want to read about a pathetic loser.
>>154382576
The edge is kinda taken off the message seeing how he's a rich kid and his family bails him out every single time.
Still, I guess the "not fitting in just right with Japanese collectivism" theme must've been fairly new and exciting to the Japs back then.
What novels would you feature in a S2? I'd go for:
Kangaroo Notebook-Kobo Abe
The Sailor Who Fell From Grace with The Sea-Mishima
I Am A Cat-Natsume Soseki
>>154383418
コンビニ人間 easily
>>154383418Spice&WolfPower to turn into KorboPort Mafia trading apple-scented fur and fucking up with power-armors
>>154382576
>Was way to whiney. Notes from Underground was better if you want to read about a pathetic loser.
I thought the exact same.
>>154382769
>The edge is kinda taken off the message seeing how he's a rich kid and his family bails him out every single time.
the point is that he's bailed out every single time he does anything wrong and he still fucks it up
>>154383462
>>154383972
Kangaroo Notebook should be a joint production with SHAFT. I imagined the whole thing as a typical SHAFT anime with Kamiya voicing the main character and it worked perfectly.
Yeah, and they absolutely butchered it.
Will Junji Ito's adaptation be great?
>>154384769
Not a chance.
I hope they adapt Tomie eventually, but only for discussing it on /a/.
>>154382576
>>154384287
You probably never felt real anxiety and alienation. It's not about reality, it's about how you feel.
>>154383418
Kokoro.
>>154383418
Wind Up Bird chronicle.
I'm not even the biggest Murakami fan, but I'd still like the see that.
Though the spoiler that the MCwas getting NTR'd hard by his wife the entire timewould probably ruin the threads.
>>154385134
Since we're talking about Murakami, Hard Boiled would be pretty good and has that Sora no Woto or Haibane Renmei vibe which it actually influenced the later series I mentioned. I could see a lot of the village stuff making a great anime before it goes full Penguindrum in some places.
>>154384769
I don't know about great, but I'm hoping it'll at least be better than Furuya's or that other one that they never finished scanning.
>>154384856
I think you're misunderstanding, he's not talking about an anime Ito adaptation, he's talking about Ito's upcoming No Longer Human manga.
>>154383418
IQ84
>>154385218
I can see his short stories work really really well as a series
>>154385324
please no, I never got why it gets so much praise
>>154384981
He still comes along as a whiny alcoholic wallowing in self-pity. One sees the gap between his self-perception and how others perceive him, but he is just a fucking bitch.
>>154385485
>He still comes along as a whiny alcoholic wallowing in self-pity. One sees the gap between his self-perception and how others perceive him, but he is just a fucking bitch.
You're lucky you can't understand.
>>154385713
Probably, other works about alienation were more accessible to me than this. Maybe it was 2japanese4me.
Reminder that there's a manga adaptation of this.
Reminder that there's a manga adaptation of this.
>>154385808
Tsumi no Batsu was pretty good,
>>154382186
>It's also one of the most referenced books in anime & manga
That's not JoJo.
>>154385485
>He still comes along as a whiny alcoholic wallowing in self-pity. One sees the gap between his self-perception and how others perceive him, but he is just a fucking bitch.
Depression and anxiety aren't usually seen as "justified" by outside parties, that's why they're considered disorders. Also, often knowing that their feelings are either unjustified or seen as unjustified just increases the depression, anxiety, and the self-loathing.
Iam interested in this, should I read the book or watch the anime?
>>154383418
Temple of the Golden Pavillion would be pretty kino.
>>154386387
The anime is good but Yozo's characterization is different from the original. I think the lack of a stream of thought like the novel has made his character seem blander, and it also ends at the beginning of the last section of the book.
I'd probably rank them
Book > Aoi Bungaku > Usamaru Furuya's (his art is great but the story barely works in a modern setting)
>>154382186
>author writes it then suicides
>japan loves it
Makes you think.
>>154386372
It's pointless trying to explain it to people who've never felt on the verge of a dark abyss.
Depression is like a spiral, there's no real escape from it, you either learn to live with it and make the most out of your life or succomb and let yourself be swallowed by it.
>>154386855
You aren't a real Japanese author until you kill yourself.
>>154386855
It's really strange how it's the second most sold book of all time in a society focused country like Japan.
>>154386939
The guy that Mishima enlisted to cut his head off after he cut his stomach freaked out and refused to do it after seeing all the blood, so Mishima has to sit like that for 10 minutes until someone else came to do it for him. Bad day.
>>154387044
>The guy that Mishima enlisted to cut his head off after he cut his stomach freaked out and refused to do it after seeing all the blood
Jesus christ.
>>154387044
>The assisting kaishakunin duty at the end of this ritual (to decapitate Mishima) had been assigned to Tatenokai member Masakatsu Morita, who was unable to properly perform the task. After several failed attempts at severing Mishima's head, he allowed another Tatenokai member, Hiroyasu Koga, to behead Mishima. Morita then knelt and stabbed himself in the abdomen and Koga again performed the kaishakunin duty.
>The guy who freaked out sudoku'd too.
Holy shit.
>>154387044
>>154387111
He died with the conformation of the new generation of Japanese being faggots, must have felt sad.
>>154381752
It's one of my favorite books but I really don't see how an anime based on it it would be enjoyable.
>>154385924
Underrated post
>>154385324
Murakami's works would legit work the best as an anime out of all the Japanese authors I know.
>>154385871
>>154385808
They also did a manga out of the Divine Comedy IIRC
>>154387231
>several failed attempts
He also hit at the guys neck 7 times and didn't kill him properly.
>>154387454
That whole debacle just outed the lot of them as a bunch of fags playing pretend samurai, no different than all the fags doing that today, just so happened that one of the people involved was a highly talented and influential writer.
Reminder that there's a manga adaptation of this.
>>154385808
Not a very good one desu. Then again, comparing something to the masterpiece that is C&P is unfair.
>>154387429
>they
It's motherfucking Nagai, not "they".
>>154387558
Reminder that there's a crab adaptation of this.
I like Kappa
>>154381752
that was the worst thing I've ever watched dropped straight after 4th episode
I do hope that people who finish the whole thing die
>>154386916
Wow you sound like a melodramatic faggot m8
>>154388497
That's what it seems like to outsiders, why do you think most people who suffer from depression are ashamed of it?
Reminder that there are types of anime and manga based on this.
>>154388598
Based Kubrick, look at this delicious 3DPD foot.
>>154388588
Because they realised they are faggots who can't own up to their problem and fix things?
>>154388445
>dropping it before Run Melos
Smh, are you a woman or something?
>>154388701
Whatever you say.
You can't "fix" or "solve" depression.
Reminder that there's a 52 episode World Masterpiece Theater anime about thisand it's not terrible, though we can all agree that Eponine is the best
>>154388999
no it's because I can't self-insert into rich fuccboi that makes women flood their pants
>>154389054
>I'm sad
Depression is a made up shit so the drug companies can drug you and take more money.
>>154389477
This is such an ignorant thing to say. Anything can go wrong with your body. What is to say that something can't malfunction with your brain?
>>154389477
No. Never taken medicine in my life.
You don't know what you're talking about.
>>154387398
Why do the Japanese hate Murakami?
>>154389879
Because he writes in a very western friendly style. No really, they hate him because the gaijin love him, no joke.
>>154389879
The accuse him of pandering to the west, especially with the way he writes.
Reminder thatYahari's author said that he was inspired by NLH
>>154388598
Lolita is my favourite novel. Is there any adaptations that are very similar / close to the source material?
>>154389926
>>154389939
I'm sure that's a criticism somewhere, but I've never heard it in all my years of living in Japan.
I mean, whole stretches of his novels are left out of the English translations. The translator has gone on record as saying foreigners are reading his interpretation of Murakami, rather than actually reading Murakami. And even then, Murakami's pretty well beloved and featured in every book store I go to.
Mind if I get some sort of source?
>>154391697
By hated I meant among "literary" communities, obviously, the general public likes him just the same.
>>154391697
He's liked well enough by normal people, it's just the people that hate him that accuse him of pandering etc. It's not really a big enough group of people to consider.
Basically only futaba, 2ch and whoever Japan's version of Harold Bloom is would say it.
