I'm not a fan of it either, personally. It's not a bad song, and the latter part of the opening is pretty nicely animated, but it doesn't get me "pumped up" or anything.

On the other hand, the first OP really feels itself with the music, from the calm and still start to the instant adrenaline rush of the chorus coupled with the precycled use of the transformation animation (but it works) and we get a really cool moving camera animation that pans and runs ambitiously toward and past each opponent up to the supposed final boss looking down from her highrise.

During the early part of the OP, we are given brief exposition shots that provide a simple picture of who Satsuki and Ryuko are as characters.

Notice that Mako is the only one who animates in the shots of the side characters. This is actually kind of important to get her as a character.

It's a lot more clever in design than KLK2's OP, but KLK2 OP has, I dunno, more shounen anime OP quality maybe? It really doesn't tell us a whole lot about the characters, just assumes we already know them (which is of course natural, or why are you skipping season 1 to watch this?).

But even when I think about something like Slayers NEXT, it doesn't stop itself from reintroducing people to what kind of character you can expect Lina to be.

To each their own, but I feel OP1 wins by architectural quality when it comes to expressing what season 1 of KLK is kind of about without giving too much away, as well as cinematography and choreography to the music so to speak.
