Do you prefer characters to be perfectly on model with stiffer animation or completely off model with fluid animation?
>>
stop asking for opinions, they're worthless.

>>154298447
Like Ordinal Scale, super fluid animation with on model characters.

Yes.
>>
fluid animation of course, if you want something to be perfectly on model then watch a live action or a disney movie
>>
Depends on the scene. If it's an action scene I prefer they'll prioritize fluidity but if they're just sitting around chatting then there's no reason the characters shouldn't look perfect.
>>
>>154298447
I want more animator driven animation in general. Let these people do something goddamn.
>>
The latter is forced animation
>>
>>154298550
this, totally agree
>>
>>154298447
>>154298447
Off model and fluid
The great fight scenes in the FMA brotherhood movie were the only good parts in the movie
>>154298527
Ordinal scale wasn't that good. The final fight with the boss was incomprehensible

>disney
Nigger, they literally invented stretch and squash.
>>
>>154298447
It's not so much about fluidity in terms of the sheer number of drawings nor is it about on-model in the sense of sticking strictly to the model sheet if you ask me. What's important is expressive drawings in terms of faces and posing, combined with movement that creates the illusion of life. It's okay to not follow the model sheets all the time.
>>
>>154298991
>The final fight with the boss was incomprehensible
True, but the animation was really good and bombastic though.
>>
>>154298551
That would be nice but crushingly tight schedules and a lack of talent prevents that from happening. At least we've been getting some great animator-driven TV shows in recent years even if they are few.
>>
>>154299157
I mean, modern 3D disney movies.
>>
That is not how you meassure good and bad animation.

Good animation: You know what the fuck is going on and movement has a purpose.

Bad animation: It's hard to tell what's happening and movement has no purpose.
>>
>>154299423
>3D

different rules, dumbass. 3D animation teams get stuck with perfectly on-model scenes by default because of the nature of 3D models so they're actually encouraged to find ways to distort the animation to promote fluidity.

2D animators have to struggle to stay on-model while animating to the point where it becomes a discipline all on its own and must decide beforehand whether an animation must require distortion to further drive an action.
>>

>The final fight with the boss was incomprehensible
Only the first time when trying to read the subtitles too, someone uploaded a camrip to youtube (yes, already taken down) and I could see whats going on even with the poor video quality
>>
>>154299528
wrong

The difference between a good and bad animation in the context to OP is say whether a character swings a baseball bat without distortion so everything is on-model 100% of the time or the same character swings the baseball bat with distortion to further drive his action of swinging said bat. Obviously whether this is good or bad depends on the context of the situation, and whether the animators intended to show that the swing of the bat was intense or some shit.

and of fucking course it's bad if you can't tell what's going on in the animation, that's common fucking sense.

you'd be surprised how dense some people can be

Shit like that.
>>
>>154298447
On model, always.
>>

Good animation: Reconguista

Bad animation: IBO
>>
>>154300207
You're the cancer that actually believes that Milos had bad animation.
>>
>>154300246
You mean the FMA:B movie? The animation was pretty fluid, but anyone with functioning eyes can see that the designs were a downgrade from the TV series.
>>
>>154300207
This
>>
>>154300292
the design of the movie doesn't have anything to do with the topic, dumbass
