Name one thing Arc-V did better than zexal

Characters? The entirety of the Arc-V cast are painfully one-dimensional, never explored, and many were straight-up assassinated later in the series. No need for me to go on about the legacy characters which were, suffice to say, a catastrophic disaster in their entirety.

Yuya is without question the most pathetic and annoying MC, regressing in character practically by the fucking episode, and being the big bad all along it's questionable if you even want to root for him as opposed to wanting to give him cement roller skates. Yuma was literally just a general good guy who wanted to help people, and by the end of Zexal, it did feel like he had evolved into a better person and character.

The vast majority of Zexal characters also got developed backstories and motivations, and at least one duel that gave them strong emotional value, which not only allowed you to like them, but showed that the writers cared about these characters too. That's a key difference between Zexal and Arc-V: The producers of the latter actually fucking cared about their work and it showed.

Plot? The laughably contrived string of events that one could perhaps call a "plot" of Arc-V is perhaps the worst I have ever seen in not just anime, but any form of media. There is no world-building. Characters have no backstory ("We played cards when we were kids" with stills doesn't count, sorry). Every plot point is completely full of holes. Leo's motivations are a joke. The Zarc "backstory" is a complete fucking joke, for that matter. You can tell they didn't give a single shit about what they were writing there. It also completely destroyed any semblance of sense that the series made when all the characters and places in the show, along with their relations, might not even be real at all because it's not the "complete" world. I mean, you know they're having a laugh when what we see of Xyz and Synchro constitutes a city, and Fusion, a single bloody island.

Meanwhile, Zexal does not have this problem, as the main world is pretty much earth, and as of Zexal II the characters travel it regularly, and we see different parts of it regularly in the emperor's past lives. The barian and astral worlds, while bare, are basically just heaven and hell rather than actual universes where there are supposed to be billions of people and thousands of civilisations actively living, so it's acceptable

Zexal's plot was certainly missing quite a few things, and didn't make perfect sense, but it was consistent from start to finish. A massive amount of its plot in I and a great amount in II was also entirely defined by the motivations of the characters themselves and what they believed and how they acted upon them, which made it so much more believable, relatable, emotional, and generally just straight-up better.

Duels? Using all the summoning methods is not an inherent plus. It adds nothing to the quality of the show or the duels and doesn't exactly enhance realism when the decks and strategies used in the show do not replicate the plays made in the real game at all. Also, in this sense, Zexal's duels were also realistic because 90% of zexal-era top tier decks were Xyz spam out the ass or protect the boss Xyz, so you still don't get the high ground if you honestly want to argue that point.

Duel direction and filler duels in Zexal were far superior to Arc-V's. Animation and monster design were far superior. The visually and emotionally memorable duels in Zexal far outweigh those in Arc-V - Sora vs Shun was its best, and Zexal delivered duels of such caliber on the regular. Arc-V may at times be superior in terms of straight-up play-by-play, which is one of the most desperate and pedantic points imaginable, but regardless, for every one well-scripted Arc-V duel there's two more which are complete and utter dogshit worse than anything that came from Zexal. Action Cards and Yuya inventing cards by the duel is also far more of a sin than the Zexal forms because the latter was the in-universe height of dueling ability. The former exist for no reason other than as plot devices written in without reasonable explanation given before or after and purely to shill cards.

Speaking of shilling, Arc-V is, unlike the past four shows, literally a walking advert. No other YGO has stooped low enough to actually fit this usually ignorant comparison. Numerous times the plot was clearly changed for no reason other than to sell certain characters' cards; monsters were invented just to sell cards; the friendship cup was more of a commercial than a coherent story. 123 is the greatest sin in YGO history, devolving to Vanguard-level tactics. Zexal had absolutely nothing like this.

So Zexal is superior in characters, plot, and duels. What, then, does Arc-V have?

There's nothing realistic about the same deck making drastically different plays every duel for the sake of variety, senpai. That's not how real life duels work. RL decks work to make the same play, or set of plays, every single duel. That's why the best decks are the most consistent - because they can do the same thing 9/10 duels. Diversity is a dramatisation provided by the anime for the sake of entertainment in the exact same way that Zexal's protect the castle was for the sake of heightened drama and entertainment, emphasising clashes in character above anything else.
