How do you learn a meme? You see it once and understand the context.

4chan involves no studying or brain activity. I don't have to think or get frustrated when I cannot understand something to scroll through this website endlessly and sometimes reply. My energy level is so low that I bought a goy pass just so I wouldn't have to put any effort towards typing or clicking a captcha.

I don't think I would have that much difficulty learning kanji given that I learned conversational Chinese back when I wasn't a depressive useless pile of shit, but to learn hanzi I had to spend time multiple times a day with Anki, trying to construct sentences, reading about grammar, talking to sluts on interpals, etc. These days I can hardly find the energy for getting out of bed to eat.

Why bother learning kanji when you can just OCR? Hell, a lot of manga even have furigana.

Not knowing kanji isn't an excuse for avoiding scanslation.

I learned Japanese solely for eroge and other vidya and haven't really touched anime for ages and only recently read through Kodomo no Jikan and Maidragon's released issues. Don't know what I should read next.

>>
>>154236419
Months of taking a jp course at uni and this is the only nip I could read in thread :( Time to invest all my time into Anki
>>
>don't know really any Japanese
>know the kana and shit like 日
>looking at raws of a series to see what the fonts and stuff look like in Nip
>wait a minute, this noun isn't what was in the scanlation
>the scanlation said "plant" instead of "tree"
>the fuck
>pull up a J->E dictionary, start looking at some of the other lines
>what the fuck, the scanlator is mostly 'in the ballpark', but other times is just making shit up
>fuck that shit
>get angry because I've now come to realize for the first time that I never actually had any solid reason to trust scanlators
>really love this series, though
>start informing people that the translations are wrong in threads, but it always seems like people don't 100% trust me, and there's more and more people who don't know, and it's damaged their reading experience
>god damn it
>start learning Japanese - just enough to prove that I know what I'm talking about, credibility starts to sway my way
>realize that if I just learned the language, I can put a stop to this nonsense in general
>I can just tell people what it actually says, and be totally sure that I'm right in what I'm saying
>force myself, through extreme [written] immersion and spending 8 hours a day playing with J->E encyclopedias and dictionaries, to learn the language
>nobody's listening to me in threads, whatever
>wait, I have a really stupid idea!
>join a scanlation team
>time passes, gain experience
>am now the translator of the series that I wanted fixed

I hate this language and I only know it because I wish to help English-speaking people enjoy Japanese media

Am I on the right track? You seem pretty informed
>>
>>154245077

That's a pretty cool origin story.

Mine is that I wanted to learn one of the languages of the axis powers but between German and Japanese they only offered Japanese at my highschool...

Then I accidentally became a weeb
>>
>>154246963
I'd have to intimately know what you're able to do. The process of learning a language differs from person to person. As I perceive the language, vocabulary is the absolute last thing that anyone ought to learn. The grammar rules are *the* key to understanding the language. If you go the 'vocab first' route, you're extremely liable to be completely lost and possibly even discouraged when you come across verb endings like たら or たり, and you'll have no clue what's happening with stuff like ものの. If you know 'just the basic' rules of grammar, such things will require a complete independent 'side-study' into those grammatical rules, which de-focuses your direction in the main study.
>>
>>154247485

Not the anon you responded to but I find it extremely hard to focus on grammar if I'm unfamiliar with more than one word in a sentence so for me I find myself having to focus on vocab a lot. What I typically end up doing is trying to read a couple of pages of a book or manga, mine a bunch of vocab and kanji, memorize them, and then go back and try to figure out the grammar.
>>
>>154245077
What series?

Reminder that spending more than 30 minutes per day on Anki is bad for you.

Are there any good resources specifically for furigana manga?
I get the feeling it'll help with my shit tier kanji.
>>
>>154248395
Because if you do that you might turn into an Ankidrone. You wouldn't want that, would you?
>>
>>154248483
What do you mean by resources?
>>
>>154248651
Just somewhere to dl or read online.
There are plenty of places to get manga in general but I've ever seen one where you could sort by use of furigana or reading level etc.
>>
>>154248697
I think DJT's spreadsheet has a column indicating whether or not a manga has furigana.
>>
>>154248697
Nyaa, the DJT site, jCafe, Perfect Dark, googling "[series name] raw", among others.
Most manga aimed at children have furigana, but keep in mind that furigana doesn't necessarily mean "easy" or "beginner-friendly". Death Note has furigana and YuruYuri doesn't, I'm sure you can guess which one is easier to read.
>>
>>154248738
So it does. This will be a good start.
>>154248807
Yeah I'm not really looking to fully comprehend right now. I just want to see kanji used correctly in context.
