I think it's a pretty good adaptation. Shaft gets a little too Shaft from time to time, but it doesn't ruin anything like they did to SoreMachi.

Dropped it a couple episodes ago. I like the characters, even the whiny MC somehow, but I couldn't bring myself to give a shit about the shogi. Not just the matches, but also all the shogi-related banter which there is a lot of (it's probably all the shogi-focused dialogue that I dislike more than the matches itself even)
