Id say both of them were.
They were both so proud that they couldn't bring themselves to talk about it.
Also i suppose Reinhard was hoping for a new worthy adversary to fight against while Reuentahl just wanted to see how far he could go.

Reuntal was a broken man, never get satisfied or truly happy, always pushing it

he only made alive up to that point by luck and his buddy support keeping his bullshit in check

He had no choice. His greed got the best of him so he gambled and lost. His story is actually pretty beautiful. Flying too close to the sun is sometimes the only option especially when you aren't satisfied with where you are.

Reuntal died a foolish death. Still one of my favourite characters.
