I used "lol" in aural communication 15 years ago. That still doesn't mean it's a good idea to put it into subtitles.
I'm not sure what that implies for "my sides" though, because I'm a a dirty ESL and can't estimate what it sounds like to a native speaker. But personally I'm much more comfortable with "my sides" than with "lol".
