But I will attempt to explain:
First of all, it's a harem (despite what some maintain) with 3 possible waifus. Shipperfags who watched it but picked one of the losing girls are still bitter over it.
Secondly, a lot were thinking it'd be some light comedy thing like Hayate no Gotoku. Instead they got FORCED DRAMA. Replete with bump-limit WALL OF TEXT threads not seen until Madoka aired years later. (Maybe Death Note, Code Geass threads were mostly memeing). This upset both viewers who watched it for the wrong reasons as well as bystanders who just wanted their Rosario + Vampire threads to last past a few posts.

I watched it a few months ago on /a/'s recommendation. IT was ok. Nothing spectacular but a good watch. The girls all have their own charm and the writing seems genuine.
