watched all of S1 and didn't understand all the hype around it

it's okay, and the premise is interesting, but it seemed to be trying way too hard to sound smart in the second half with Makishima quoting works of literature

There's nothing wrong with it in general. I just felt like it was a overused a bit. I'll say that Makishima does make for a compelling antagonist with the way he manipulates those around him.

S1 good, S2 shit

The way it gives a hook right before the credits to make you want to watch the next episode immediately is as good as it's ever been in anime.

Season 2 was a disaster.
