The best explanation is that everything went downhill after the Sasuke Retrieval Arc.

Sometime after that point, Kishimoto decided to turn the entire meta-historical underpinning of his world into NaruSasu as though every important relationship in history is similar to NaruSasu in some way (Madara is a hard worker, First is a Joker) to the point that it even become the meta-origin of the world (Rinnegan to Sharingan, first ninjas were somehow Naruto and Sasuke). Why did this happen? Either Kishi thinks NaruSasu is the best or he has no ideas other than to rewrite NaruSasu.

The problem is by making Naruto and Sasuke and their clans so special, it just makes them less interesting especially when their relationship isn't that interesting in the first place. It's the same dumb, hyperactive cunt and smart, stoic ace shit we see in almost every shounen anime and one of them is also going the traditional Wuxia Revenge story.
