Berserk opening was actually one of the best i've seen. Through entire golden age Guts is trying to find his own way. He fights he goes on, but he always wonders about the point of him doing that. Song represents that inner search, and it is surprisingly contrast to the world of an anime, world is grim and brutal but song is not. Guts inner struggle is also this way. Guts at the beginning of golden age is a loner with his own inner questions and he don't really cares about much. Song presents that very well.

It's also very unusual for an opening to be somewhat deeper.

Usually when there is action they throw some fast rock in there and it goes along the lines of
