Never watched Xros Wars.

In defense of 02, the final story arc was very well-done and up to Adventure standards, but it doesn't excuse all the slog you have to go through to get there.
Also Episode 13 of 02 was fantastic but can be treated as a standalone OVA basically.

I'm not that anon but adventure is meh, it has too many kids so it spends too much time with evolution episodes
Tamers is more straightforward, the humans are better and the digimon have some personality. It has a really poor animation though, specially in the end.

except it does this very well, spacing out some evolutions (reminder that Togemon didn't evolve into Lilimon until the Vamdemon arc was almost over) and deliberately breaking with the pattern some times for added effect.
It's much more formulaic in most other seasons, Adventure added enough twists to keep it interesting.

Bear in mind I actually like 02 a lot but that's mainly for the digimon itself and seeing Mimi punt a Sukamon. Also I've only seen the subs so if one of these is better in dub than enlighten me

I didn't think it was (that) bad but it's a a tremendous deviation from the format that made Digimon so fun and successful.

"Kid and his killer animal best friend".
This charm provided in the last 3 seasons were completely absent in the 4th and so many people wind up turning away since it's less Digimon and more of an animated Sentai Series

3. Reduction of caste relevancy.
You just expanded the caste with the dark kid. Now we should immediately make it so only red or blue are relevant. Actually they did it earlier with the hybrid evolutions.
