Because the first 60 minutes are 9.5/10. Thats however when the average normie stop to properly watch a movie so he doesnt notice that the second half is like 5-6/10. Kimi no na wa is a movie for the heart, not for the brain. Thats precisely why its so highly rated among these people.

There is a difference between not feeling anything and blatantly ignoring flaws. Certain scenes of parts 2 made me shed tears as well, but that didnt change the fact that I was questioning them in regards to overall plot development. The emotions you feel arent necessarily caused by how well written something is. In fact, I'd claim that Kimi No Na Wa uses a lot of "cheap" emotional manipulation. The wish for them to end up together paired with the insane sound sound design will make you shed tears even if you dont want to I feel.

In addition to being a popular date night movie, I believe the comet element probably resonated with the nips. Considering they have had some bad natural disasters in the past couple of years. I think that whole bit with threads probably hit hard. Idk man, I went in with low expactations because I'm resistant to hype but ten minutes in it won me over. Its kinda like >>154075869 said. You can point out like 5 plot holes and deflate the baloon but thats not really the point. It just wanted to have a good time by showing off fun characters, using a tired genre in a refreshing way. Plus the music was really good and that montage scene really is 10/10 it builds up to it so fucking well. I haven't had that much fun with anime in a while and it reminded me why I watch in the first place.

They probably haven't watched enough romcoms to see how cliched and predictable it is. It's one of those newcomers vs experienced watchers things. You only know how to predict it if you've seen enough shows to know what usually happens in these types of things. So for them I'm sure it was a pretty unique concept while for everyone who's seen more knows how unoriginal the execution is.
