I've watched Madoka a bunch of times and I still have no clue what her mom is talking about in this scene. Her advice just makes zero sense to me. I realize it's foreshadowing what happens at the end of the episode, but even when I rewatch this scene it's just total nonsense. What does "making a mistake" to "balance out someone who needs to be right" even mean?

I always saw it as her mom giving her shit advice.
Gomenasai anon-kun, February 2011 was too long ago to remember this.

>not having all of your anime archived so you can rewatch a scene at a moment's notice

Means you need to learn japanese and stop trusting subs
Also post a screen cap with the entire dialogue

I do, but Madoka was two laptops ago. 2011 is getting pretty old, senpai.

I'll post the whole conversation here then
The subs are correct and the dialogue isn't confusing. OP is just retarded

>He doesn't take proper care of not just one but two laptops.

Help me out then. What does her advice mean?
It means to be the 'bad guy' and do something wrong for another's sake so that person won't be harmed by their righteous behavior. Sayaka is fixated on doing the right thing and won't listen to Madoka's concerns. Madoka can tell Sayaka's going to end up being hurt, but she can't just abandon her friend. So Madoka's mother gives her this advice: Doing the right thing doesn't need necessarily lead to happiness. Sometimes you have to do the wrong things. If some knucklehead won't do things for their own sake, you'll have to do it for them. Maybe they'll finally understand.
Sounds good. Is it perfect? Hell no, it's the ramblings of a drunk and Madoka is even greater goody two-shoes than Sayaka. A person like Homura does it right by forcing her way.
