I think the problem was that they needed to focus more in the penguins because they had more history than other friends. That made Kaban and Serval be less on screen and doing things. It felt weird because of that.
But the penguins were really cute and we got some good information so a good chapter in the end.

While I agree that this episode felt a bit out of place considering theme of the show. It wasn't so far out of the left field.
We know that Owls know how to use the equipment that is already there. We know that PPPs were used to be an attraction and we know that Lucky Beasts do help with the attractions. The second song they sang was supposed to be opening while first one had the band name in the title, they clearly just reuse music.
The only real issue was that they acted very much like idols and not animals transformed into humans trying to find themselves. It didn't fit strong theme we had so far.

I will say though that other than that it was really fun and enjoyable episode. Not far from the general feeling show had up to this point. Just look at it as a side story.

I don't get this discussion on plot holes. Humans used to be in this park, so they could've created the stage as well. I never said they didn't belong, but it's obvious that they aren't a main part of the franchise. I think that this episode could have been done way better with the same characters and setting.

That's actually REALLY good point. This episode pretty much was blatantly opposite to the rest of the episodes we'd seen so far as well as the director's commentary on web Newtype. Not much natural scenery to be shown, close shots on the penguins dancing to avoid having to animate the entire dance, it totally broke out from the norm. I think they were just made to make this episode out of contractual obligation or something. Really, they could just have relegated the penguins to just the ending previews and maybe an OVA released later with the BDs, but I guess they didn't really have the means for that.

I think it was a pretty good episode, but it should have had Kaban solve whatever problem PPP was having. Something like pointing out the strengths of each member and reorganizing them ("Everyone trusts Emperor, so if she leads instead of Hururu, it will go better"), or helping rig up something when Princess goes AWOL, or giving Margay the idea to mimic the voice.

Its the only episode where Kaban doesn't solve a problem with her staggering human IQ of 45, with other Friends following her direction. That's the only thing that makes this episode separate from the others- the idol concert doesn't conflict with what we know of the park or Friends.

Because every idol group has had multiple generations with a varying number of members, which caused a dumb member to get too self-conscious about it.

Hell, you're missing one very important point about this episode: it drew some sort of relationship with the other Kemono Friends series. They confirmed that this show takes place after both the game and the manga, where PIP had 4 members, and that there was one other generation where the group had 3 members.
