Initial D is literally just a generic battle shounen with cars.
>shit art (at least it was endearingly bad at first)
>poor writing (especially past S3)
>battles that take 3+ episodes to conclude
>everyone having an ultimate skill but also a weakness
>effectively no character progression past S3
>overpowered protagonist who never (officially) loses
>power levels that become ridiculous (FUJIWARA ZONE)
>wasting a bunch of time with talking heads narrating the races
The more I think about it, the more I realize music is literally all Initial D has going for it. They don't even put much personality into the cars, they're just tryhard racecars we know nothing about.

It's a sports manga. Battle manga are an offshoot of sports manga. You have it backwards. How do you not know this anyway?
Other than overstating driver and car ability I enjoyed the technical aspect and the accuracy of the cars and sounds.

You watched Initial D for the plot?
LMAO
Battle Shounen is a genre that literally evolved from sports manga. You'll find most of the cliches you associate with battle manga in sports manga, because that's where they came from in the first place.
The two series that Japan generally considers the first real "Shounen Battle Manga" are a boxing and wrestling series.
>no E30
>no first gen MR2 w/Supercharger
>no 911
Would have hurt to include some imported cars?
I can argue too.
It's good.
