There won't be anything left to detonate, Deidara would be completely and totally destroyed with not a single trace left. There has to be something left to detonate. It doesn't auto-go off the second Deidara takes damage.

Also the whole being a ninja thing makes Deidara many many times faster than Kira by default. He could just chuck a kunai into Kira's brain in less than a second.
