Upside to a new anime Saiko and hairu get animated. Eto gets more animated scenes. She was the saving grace of root a for me.

It took ages to get anywhere though. They kept introducing a bunch of new characters nobody cares about and killing them. The old characters got shafted until very recently. I agree that it has gotten better after the last time-skip.

Endless, (mostly) meaningless fights without any tension with predicable results.
Arima and Kaneki fight was just going on and on...I seriously thought it isn't going to end.

Why the fuck author decided to do two arcs in same time?
Its so terrible executed. It was jumping left and right without any conclusions.
Was first TG really so much battle dominated?

Because there was too much source material for a 12-episode season 2, so they got Ishida to help make an original plotline, and then who knows what the fuck happens, I like to think an intern spilt coffee on the computer with all the files, destroying all the work.
So they took the manga plotlines and events, butchered them, and then stitched them together as quickly as they possibly could, with the only difference aside from the chronology being that Kaneki joins Aogiri for no reason. And none of the other events happen for any reason either because they happen so out of order.

The anime's first season cut some stuff out but overall was an alright adaptation.
The second season, Root A, butchered the manga's plotline and events and stitched them back together into some incomprehensible frankensteinian monster. Good job for having the cognitive abilities to notice that nothing made sense.
If you're really not willing to start from the beginning, chapter 54 is where you should begin. It's immediately after Kaneki gets kidnapped by Aogiri. The anime cut out the first half of that arc, and this is at the beginning of the Aogiri arc. Everything from here on is where the anime became drastically different from the manga.
