Started reading the mango, holy shit, it's so much better. I don't even dislike any character yet.

Asuka's character is less annoying and more cute, Rei actually develops through it and Shaun became a normal guy, he smiles jokes with his friends, fights with Asuka.

Misato is a bit of a bitch in the first chapters but seems like she became better later. Also almost all the obnoxious and unnecessary sexual aka shock value scenes are cut.

It's so much more fun and better character development. Why did I wait so long?

I'd argue the characters are what make the show, but it's the acceptance of all these different characters, how they cope with issues, how they use other people to keep themselves afloat, and how they can slowly rid themselves of their crutches. That's where it's at for me. I think accepting all of each other is part of that.

I think they already predicted his death by the Dead Sea Scrolls. They couldn't initiate Instrumentality if an angel is still alive, so they send him to his death in accordance with their plans. Kihl outright says "I pray that Unit 1 will fullfill its task" and SEELE said they won't depend on the angels.
