there's a difference between a hiki and a neet

being a neet just means you're a loser and a slacker. you can potentially be functional, but the right mix of laziness and/or bad luck keeps you from getting anywhere

being a hiki means you got fucking brain problems

kazuma is an "underachiever", not someone who is dysfunctional. he's bart simpson, not ralph wiggum
>>
>>153950146
Kazuma is barely old enough to work part-time in Japan. He's neither a NEET nor an underachiever.

>In order to purchase a limited first release version of a popular online game, I got up early to queue up.
>Society addressed people like me as Hikikomori.
>>
>>153948685
The problem is that NEET has become a buzzword, people like to use it even when they don't know the meaning, most people confuse it with a "lazy nerd"
>>
>>153953692
Also
>"Nah, you came up with an excuse right on the spot, why are you able to handle this so perfectly? You seemed to be a capable guy, why were you a hikiNEET without any girls or friends? Why did you want to stay at home all day and be a hikiNEET?"
>"Not having a girl or friends isn't a bad thing. The value of a person cannot be measured by the number of friends or having a significant other. And don't call me a hikiNEET. Damn bitch. Don't combine hikikomori and NEET together, and I am just 16, too young to be a NEET by society's standard… There it is."
>>

Being a lazy ass for not working 8 hours a day isn't a personality?
>>
>>153950146
>being a neet just means you're a loser and a slacker.
No it doesnt. The term LITERALLY is a fucking acronym. Neet doesnt mean that youre lazy or a slacker. People simply are too fucking retarded to use it properly. Its like noob. To the average retard noob = bad and neet = lazy, even though neither describing the respective term.
>>
>>153954510
Unemployed people looking for a job are still NEETs. Has nothing to do with personality.

>>

Its fucking hilarious that we consider this normal. Spending 8 hours a day doing something you hate. And thats us westerners. Now think about how mentally challenged Japanese people are. They work way more.

>>153954806
Exactly. The show doesnt even properly use the term NEET either. They basically said that he was a NEET while still being in high school, which simply doesnt work.
>>
>>153954890
>Its fucking hilarious that we consider this normal
>Spending 8 hours a day doing something you hate
How about you find something you can come to terms with doing 6 hours a day?
I always thought it takes a virtue to find a job down your alley that would keep you fed and entertained.
>>
>>153954890

The problem is that the vast majority of people doesnt even have the chance to figure out what they really like. Public education does a horrible job at preparing them for the life after school. People are supposed to be kids until 15, then they suddenly need to know what they want in life. Most of them simply settle for a job because they want to make money. Especially in Anglo countries they dont even have a choice. Who the fuck is supposed to pay for further college education? Good luck finding a 6hour job that pays the bills, though.

>>153955128
Average amount of hours worked per year. More evidence that the Germans arent actually working a lot, but when they do they do it efficiently which is why everybody thinks that they are the "hardest working".

>>153955166

> Public education does a horrible job at preparing them for the life after school.
You can try working odd jobs while your parents are still willing to support you to try things out and gain experience.
I was doing that in uni and changed six workplaces from 18 to 22 y/o.
Granted your education would likely suffer, you'll be working odd hours, have broken sleep cycle, might hurt your health with manual labor etc.
>Good luck finding a 6hour job that pays the bills, though.
After four years of working shit places I did.
Nobody ask me how much I work each day as long as shit gets done.
They even allow me to work remotely most of the time.

How do you get a job anyway? My grandparents gave me advice to go to place where I want to work and start doing the work and when they ask me what I'm doing, I should just shake their hand and ask for job.
But when I did that, went to store and started putting food on shelves and optimizing the layout of freezers, they called security on me. I even baked pies that I put on sale there, but no job offer. Similar things happened at my other jobs, nobody wants me to cut their garden, teach the kids how to swim or help with choosing clothes. My social work assistant adviced me to not worry about it, try to fill your life with hobbies and be nice to people, but when I did that and tried to organize her desk she got angry too. I just want to work like everyone else.

Language is literally the only field where something can be true if enough people say it is. Let's imagine that "neet" is a different word than "NEET". The former may have an etymology derived from the latter, but it can develop its own meaning over time.
>>
>>153962009
Your logic is gay.
NEET is abbreviation.
You either meet its terms conditions or not.
>>
>>153962239
No, that's how language works. What something "should be" is irrelevant. A lot of English words come from Latin ones that are only tangentially related to the meaning they carry today. "Armageddon" is literally a hill in Israel, but if you use the word in English, people know what you're really saying is, "the bloody, fiery, end of the world".
>>
>>153962368
>What something "should be" is irrelevant.
See above about gay logic.
It's an abbreviation, a technical term.
Just because people misuse it doesn't mean it gain new meaning.
They're just being poser retards en masse.

Neet - Not in employment, education, or training.
Hikikomori - Shut in rarely if ever leaveing their room

There is a distinct difference between the two.

You really don't get how language works. All a word is, is a symbol which a group of people have assigned to a meaning. That's it. The specific technical meaning you're referring to was assigned by some ministry of the British government, and in that context it has that meaning.

As it is, your use of "gay" in "gay logic" it itself an idiosyncratic coinage. "Gay" was originally a synonym for happy or pleasant. Later it came to mean, "a male homosexual". But your usage is a step beyond even that. Logic has no sexual orientation, so taken literally, "gay logic" is a meaningless expression. Only by understanding "gay" as a general pejorative, synonymous with "bad" or "stupid", is your post even readable.

I'm assuming he's just mad that people who aren't as much of a failure as him are using a term he deeply relates with.
At least that's why I'm mad.

That's with common use words which change over time, but with technical terms it doesn't work like that, they still have their meaning that is incorrectly used

I have watched every I know forced to work 1 job + as much over time as they can get, or multiple jobs to live, but here I am, 29 and never worked, they wonder how I could live with myself, but I honestly know that this is the best time of my life, the moment I work its all down hill because 9+ hours a day to make barely enough if even enough to survive, vs sitting in my room doing nothing but having fun pursuing my interests.

My parents have watched 12+ divorces in the family and friends all of which the woman took everything from the man, and they still try to force me to date and 'find someone'

If after seeing 12+ marriages fail and the only ones that didn't were people who were from the 50's or older, then fuck them and their 'what's best for me shit'

There's no difference between common words and technical words other than the contexts they are used in. This isn't like Newspeak where we have a separate C vocabulary for the things. As it is, a number of "common words" like evaporate, distill, vitriol, humor, rectify, retort; these all have technical origins.

long story short, I don't get much and live with parents, just what comes in the form of dividends, beyond that I leach off of them, none of this "i want a new computer, get me one" shit, but food and life necessities are provided.

If they ever kick me out, i have around 1-3 years of savings thanks to stocks to live off of, potentially up to 7 years depending on how they do this year, but at that point, I am going to play every card I have, my feet feel like they are ripping when I stand, my knees hurt, my back makes lifting anything or even standing impossible for more then 10 minutes without pain, my hands have an issue where if I use grip strength at all, they will randomly have a VERY sharp stabbing pain that makes wiping my ass with that hand near impossible for a good 3-4 days. Only reason I don't try for disability now is how afraid I am that a doctor will blow me off yet the fuck again and i'm told everyone deals with this, suck it up.

If I cant get physical disability, could probably hit mental, and if that doesn't work killing myself, because my dad, who I see as doing everything right in life, wakes up at 10~, goes to work at 1:30pm comes home at around 11:30 to 3:30am, getting at worst 2 hours of free time in the morning, and 3 hours in the evening, or just 2 hours a day as he works overtime most days. They don't have massive debt, but till my grandpa died and live insurance paid out, they way they talked about money was as if an extra 100$ a week would bankrupt them, the fucker makes nearly if not over 30$ an hour now. If he HAD to work like that to not be in debt, what the actual fuck hope do I have when I barely qualify for minimum wage, Ill take 100$ buy a gun and put one in my head if that's the case.

>>Fun fact: the meaning of words change over time
Fun fact: whenever you see somebody use this "argument" it's because they have literally nothing else to support their totally incorrect stance when it comes to word usage. This is your actual argument at this point "Yeah I may be wrong according to every dictionary and the generally understood meaning of the term according to people who actually know what it means, but if enough stupid people like me keep using it incorrectly we'll eventually be right, maybe."
>>
>>153956544
>You can be a wagie and a NEET
So this is the kind of mouth breathing moron we have on /a/ now
>>
>>153964051
>the generally understood meaning of the term
Which changes as people use it.
>according to people who actually know what it means
But we still haven't a priori defined what the meaning is. What you're actually doing is saying only certain people can define a word. In French or Spanish that might make sense, but English has no national language academy.

Not for acronyms you dumb shit, that's just stupid fucks like you and them being too stupid to learn what it means.

You're probably one of those mouth-breathers who never actually learned what certain turns of phrase actually were and just sound them out as you write them.

that's you.
