It's simply a matter of scale and obnoxiousness. There's noting wrong with a bit of idealization or lack of realism, but the problem starts when story becomes nothing but a masturbatory material, where the wish-fulfillment part is so blatant it turns plot and characters into toys author uses to jerk-off.
