This anime is so brutal, every episode. It's not the apocalyptic hammer of doom like the ending eps of Assassination Classroom that just burn you away in a searing flash of emotional destruction, but it's this relentless mortar barrage of feels every week that's actually fatiguing, like death by inches. Are there any other anime that deal with suicide in such a serious manner? In Welcome to the NHK it's sorta played for laughs as a big misunderstanding, but this episode was very blunt. Based on the knowledge of Kiku's personality, it's not just Konatsu talking out of her ass when she says he was planning on killing himself. Even to the audience it seems like a real possibility that they actually managed to prevent by being there.

That's a big reason why I love it too. It manages to give us a ton of history between characters that's not only significant but largely memorable. We're not privy to the greater details of Okami's life the way we are with Yakumo, but despite timeskips and everything, we still get a lot.

When you're marathoning a series, it is often easier to remember smaller events from previous episodes which you might have forgotten when you're watching week by week. But when watching weekly it's nice to have discussion about the character's motives and future events.

That's a real possibility. I'm rewatching the first episode now to see if I just didn't notice initially and in some scenes they drew his teeth normally but there's frames where they're messed up like how they're always drawn now. I guess I just never noticed before.
I'll bet it was something more sinister than needing braces, though. Nothing is ever simple in Rakugo.

I haven't seen any dates for this or news of other licensing agreements, though. I'd really wish for a dvd release as well.

He never said you have to let it stew for the same amount of time as the original airtime. I think he's right though. I've noticed a difference in my emotional involvement in a show if I watch 1 episode a day vs. all episodes in one day. No matter how engaged you are, you'll still have the feeling that "I just met this person earlier today." By letting the episodes sit in you mind, and especially sleeping on each one, you convert more of the content into long-term memory. It also gives you more time to think about the characters and their interactions outside of actually watching the 24 minute episode. If I watch 24 minutes of a show at the beginning of the day and spend the rest of the day having thoughts about that episode, don't you think my experience will ultimately be different?
