Still doesn't feel like it's time, although I do think NT will be ending after this arc. The series is still too profitable for them to let it go, and Kamachi is in a perfect spot as an author right now. He's probably got a good portion of the rest of the story figured out, but can do whatever he wants with it and at anytime.

Also, IIRC OT's ending came completely out of nowhere right when S2 ended and a few months later NT was out.

Kamachi somewhat avoids that due to him repeating stuff and sometimes explaining things as if the reader was new for that reason. There's gonna come a time soon where they ask which is better: NT with an absurd volume count for another new series. There's no correct answer to that really.

Although it may end up losing its profitability at some point, I don't see why not when you've got Kawakami's stuff going for like 20+ years now. S3 is a gamble because it begs the question of how will it impact sales almost 20 volumes ahead, but in this day and age they're probably smart enough to understand that there will be some people that will either just read summaries, pirate the older ones or read them online.

Until such a point Kamachi's sales have really tanked I don't think he needs to drum up interest with ending the series. He's still regularly hitting 60k ish which is pretty decent. Wait until the hype from S3 wears off and then if it's tanking again kick off the last arc.

Mikoto and Accel already have spin offs of their own there's literally loads of other characters that would be better suited for side stories.

Sure I would, I liked Railgun S despite knowing more or less what was going to happen already as it offered a new perspective.

That doesn't change the point however that there's way more characters that would be better suited for side stories than the two who already have spin offs if and when the series ends.

I don't know about you, but much as I'm able to differentiate reality and fiction I'm able to differentiate timelines in fiction. Might be because I've read lots of time travel fiction with loops or the like but if something is before another event it's perfectly reasonable for the characters to act differently.
