They would have to take some liberties. Because everyone would want to be in Academy City, we'd need some sort of game canon magic cabal who are living in Academy City to serve as a central focus who weren't the Remix Church (or were a new faction of the Remix Church who were building up in Academy City). Which I'd be ok with if they were centered in a part of the city with sea access so it's easier to smuggle people & goods in. And if Aleister knew about them and allowed them to persist provided they could prove to be a potential asset & weren't informing the citizens about magic.

We'd need a middle ground too to cover Skillouts (melee brawlers and knife fighters for sure), non-aligned Mercs who use guns, and some sort of tech class to cover the robots.

For mages, maybe Inquisitor to cover Fire Mages & Priests and Battle Mage to cover Magicians who use weapons in their combat style ? Probably Alchemist too just to round out the Magic side with a support class.

I'm having a harder time picking out stuff for Espers. I think a Teleporter class is a no brainer just because of how popular they are, but maybe an Elemental esper just to cover all of the Element types of Esper abilities. Then let the player's element be chosen at random, with all of their abilities being the same attack power wise but having different visuals. Maybe something ridiculous for the third, like Gunha on cocaine or a barrier class who can turn concrete or other material around them into defenses.

There could be more classes than just 3 per side, I just went with that because it felt like a good number to cover everything.

Back then we weren't as hostile about it. The biggest rivalry was Index and Mikoto, and Index honestly didn't stand a chance since Mikoto hadn't been shilled so bad yet. Even then, shipping didnt feel as acidic because there was so much shit to discuss and explore that the shipping didnt feel intrusive. Now Shipping is one of the only things to remain unless a new novel drops.

I still stand by liking kamikoto back in OT because her inclusion into the story felt organic and gradual with a great climax point. Then NT happened. Her development halted almost completely and she felt forced into everything. That, and after seeing Mikoto for years in her own manga, the anime, and the LNs, her impact just kind of faded. She became old news and the series went further down the line of creating 10 new pair of tits per novel just to be forgotten.

I still like kamikoto, and wouldnt mind it as an endgame pairing. But a lot of the passion I held for the ship has been sucked dry over the long years. That passion lingers elsewhere now. With KamiKuro.

She resolves to do something, and that was the first time we actually saw her go for it. She held back in following him in OT16, and this was the first time she truly chased after him and "his world". Going so far as to hijack planes to chase after him. In NT she does crazy stuff so it doesn't feel like a lot, but back then it was a huge step. And the fact that she couldnt quite get there was a powerful scene. It was a signal that she would need to fully immerse herself in "his world" to reach him.

Which was why in NT a lot of people were pissed when they just kind of glazed over the fact that he showed up again and Mikoto didn't seem that interested in actually understanding the shit he's in. Mikoto is an honest and forward character (minus the tsundere), and she thought she watched him die. From her perspective she had no idea what the fuck was going on and what the fuck the Star of Bethleham even was. Not understanding what was happening, from her perspective, could have made the difference. The in-character response would have been for her to corner him and demand some answers as to what the fuck is happening. She honestly should have sat in on Birdway's lecture. Tried to understand magic, show a willingness to help out Touma in whatever way she could. But instead she just seemed to romanticize being with Touma and just handwaved everything weird and decided it would all be fine in the end. It's jarring and stiff. Hell, it's not just because it's Mikoto, most humans whom would be considered friends would want explanations on straight up super natural shit he was getting into.

Ugh, I'm ranting. I'll stop. But I would like to say I like that she's developing in the more recent novels. It's just that it seemed to stall horribly in most of NT. The development that we are seeing where she tackles problems like a human being was about 15 volumes late.

That's pretty common in creative mediums actually. You either get the artist/writer/musicians that think they are the hottest shit and get bitchy when you try to give them constructive criticism (and thus never grow better). Or you get the opposite ones who start fine and then get crushed by self doubt and don't produce anything because they are never satisfied with their work.

I'm not saying you guys need to go back and finish your old fics, but always live by the mantra of "finished, not perfect". Because you'll never hit your full potential if you don't move forward. The hardest part, sometimes, is accepting that you cant bring your 100% all the time. But there are times you got to be ok with 80% and move on.
