I said this a long time ago back when we were still in full hype mode and now I can say it for sure, with some modification.

I think Yuzu was the last chance for girls in the franchise. They essentially give her everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, to make her a standout character. She had a role in the plot, she had a goal to get better, she was actually in the center of things. But they just literally stopped. They didn't even fuck it up, that would at least have been at least showing some kind of effort, they just fucking stopped.

Yuzu and the Ruris was essentially the peak proof that they will never have girls do anything or mean anything in this franchise, which is honestly kind of a shame because it feels like they take this effort to make them likable characters

Hardly. He was already beaten by Atem after an intense Shadow Game and was very exhausted. It was the perfectly reasonable that Bakura would beat him. His death also makes him a tragic villain too since he never got redeemed and his methods remain questionable given his true objectives, giving him that nice moral gray area you want in a good villain. Since he dies, it's implied that he meets Cyndia in the afterlife so he did get what he wanted in the end which was to reunite with her.

Action cards are more entertaining than situational traps on the condition that picking them up involves something more interesting than just running there and getting the card you need to save your ass. They were fun in standard action fields, they still looked cool during riding duels, but they lost all appeal when action duels were reduced to a bunch of floating platforms. At least the traps need to be set.
