Whilst they are both childish wish fulfilment, at least Fate/ is not the dullest franchise in the history of movie franchises. Seriously each episode following the boy wizard and his pals from Hogwarts Academy as they fight assorted villains has been indistinguishable from the others. Aside from the gloomy imagery, the series’ only consistency has been its lack of excitement and ineffective use of special effects, all to make magic unmagical, to make action seem inert.

Perhaps the die was cast when Rowling vetoed the idea of Spielberg directing the series; she made sure the series would never be mistaken for a work of art that meant anything to anybody?just ridiculously profitable cross-promotion for her books. The Harry Potter series might be anti-Christian (or not), but it’s certainly the anti-James Bond series in its refusal of wonder, beauty and excitement. No one wants to face that fact. Now, thankfully, they no longer have to.

The writing is dreadful; the book was terrible. As I read, I noticed that every time a character went for a walk, the author wrote instead that the character "stretched his legs."

I began marking on the back of an envelope every time that phrase was repeated. I stopped only after I had marked the envelope several dozen times. I was incredulous. Rowling's mind is so governed by cliches and dead metaphors that she has no other style of writing. Later I read a lavish, loving review of Harry Potter by the same Stephen King. He wrote something to the effect of, "If these kids are reading Harry Potter at 11 or 12, then when they get older they will go on to read Stephen King." And he was quite right. He was not being ironic. When you read "Harry Potter" you are, in fact, trained to read Stephen King.

Let's see, teenage magic school in England, set in the modern world where magic coexists with modern society. The protagonist gets into shenanigans at school but manages to worm her way out of them mostly by virtue of being the protagonist (granted, this applies to 99% of fiction aimed at teens).
It's not just the general setting, however. LWA actively tries to bring in concepts from HP, like making Akko a mudblood, or having her miss the initiation ceremony and being told she will be expelled, only for her to manage to make it through by fighting stuff in the school's literal forbidden forest.

Don't get me wrong, LWA is actually probably my favorite anime this season. But if you don't think it's very purposely trying to capitalize on HP, you're being willfully blind.

What I said is that it's actively trying to be Japanese Harry Potter. That implies that it has a similar setting and borrows concepts, in order to create the create the same feeling and hold the same appeal. All of which is true for LWA.

Story has nothing to do with it. Fantastic Beasts, for example, is still a Harry Potter story in the sense that it carries the same torch, and uses the same setting and concepts, even though the story may be different. But evidently, you think that just the fact that it's an all-female school somehow changes everything, and you have the audacity to call anyone else a retard.

Not really. Harry Potter was just one of the West's first popular isekais. It appealed to us the same way isekai appeals to Nips. Kid has a shitty life, escapes to fantasy land where he's actually really talented and respected after some struggle. Its all the same shit, but I don't see as many parallels with F/SN. I see Fate as its own thing, there's no real equivalent for its ridiculous shittiness in the west.
