It's not some amazing ground breaking show if that's what your looking for. The best I can say is it's just fine. It is enjoyable and visually a great show. The characters aren't the strongest but they all fulfill their own part of the story. Is it worth a watch? Sure. It's easily enjoyable and that's all that really matters.

If you can't tell by looking at it, yes. But no.

The characters are fun, the animation is good, the story goes absolutely nowhere.

Production value-wise it was really nice and it had some action so it stuck out a little from the typical Kyoani romp, but there were some serious plot issues and most of the characters weren't all that likable despite a few fun moments.

Unironically great love story if you're not dense as lead. The action and the fantasy are not the main appeal nor the focus. Amazing eye candy and enjoyable if you pay attention to how the relationship between the leads develop (the other characters also have some nice details but those are probably only noticeable the second time you watch). All in all, you won't regret watching it. Pay special attention to the theme of loneliness.

It's LN trash that's massively elevated by KyoAni's direction. The characters are far more endearing than they should be just because of the studio's talent.

The movie is "ok" if you just want some more drama and action, it's a little bit darker than the show and has some very bizarre moments. Here's the deal breaker, though: Mirai (at the beginning of the movie, literally the first line of dialog) gets amnesia. Obviously character dynamics change when the main girl forgets about everyone, and even gets a different personality. Some characters shine more in the movie, like Hiroomi or Sakura, but Mirai is just destroyed.

So yeah, I don't take the movie as canon.

Honestly it isn't. The story feels like the author only reads light novels. It's pretty cringy, which is a shame since Kyoani makes everything look amazing. The only good episode is the filler when they dance like idols.

Action stuff is ok but the character development and romance plots are pretty terrible. Almost none of the characters are really that likable despite the author trying really hard.

The "bad" part of the action side of the show isn't the action animation itself, it's the lore around it. This show was just not written to be an action show, it's a romance in an action setting. The whole story surrounding the action is just necessary for the main plot of the show: the romance between Mirai and Aki; it was never the main focus. At least that's how I see it.
