Yeah, but Spring Weapon is far from being an established veteran, it and Poro are practically on the same playing field, and Poro has a ton more fujo appeal.

Judging the series just by the first chapter alone seems unfair. These Shonen first chapters are always formulaic. Tbh the first chapters of many famous series also seem similar. One of my favourite series, World Trigger, also had a similar first chapter but later developed into a fantastic series. So I think a series can be judged better after a couple of tens of chapters or so.

The king and queen are probably exempt from the ranking system as they've already proven their place in the demon world. It sounds like a new king takes the throne every so many years so if, say, the king was number one at the time of the last indoctrination then theres really no need to prove himself. And having a system like this rules out the possibility of a coup because to become the next king all you have to do is become number one in the rankings and then wait for the next seat change. Its kind of nice.

But then I can't help but wonder if the queen was an equally powerful female demon or if she was just arbitrarily picked by the king. I'm quite interested in how this world works so hopefully we'll get some answers unlike Beelzebub.

It's the first chapter and you can already tell the exact episodic formula it's going to follow for the foreseeable future. As likeable as the first chapter was, the series is going to depend on the quality of humour, and even that might not save it if (when) the battle arcs start. I think it's going to wind up as a less interesting Samon.

Say what you want about KND, but it had a strong introductory chapter and you can't immediately tell where it's going from there. If it keeps following the flow of the first chapter, it's going to end up being a beautiful trainwreck.

We Never Learn may just end up being Nisekoi: Brotherhood, but at least it has a wonderfully meta-ironic translated name.

Honestly, the only thing this chapter accomplished is being mostly inoffensive. It's extremely generic, and from chapter 1 you can tell what kind of formula it'll follow for the first 3 volumes at least. and the only legitimately funny gag was the Tsun Godzilla poster, and it's a big old WSJ/japan circlejerk, but it also does nothing divisive, and it's only the first chapter, so it doesn't really give you a reason to dislike it. It's just kinda there.

It's really cute. The art style and premise are prime bait for attracting fujos. I guess if none of the other new series deliver for them they'll latch on to this. And so far it looks like We Can't Study and U19 will be straighter than a ruler.

I'd like to see more of Poro's weeaboo adventures. As long as it doesn't devolve into a pure action series right away I think I could enjoy it.

Besides Ole Golazo, nothing else is getting cancelled. It had a sudden timeskip this week.

Hinomaru is setting up the final match this chapter in the tournament but the last one lasted 16 chapters, so it's got at least 4 months left plus we don't even know if this is the final arc.

Samon is just doing regular gag chapters, it has 2 main plot lines and is doing nothing to advance them in any way, the author certainly seems to think it's safe. Plus a color page next week.

Spring Weapon just introduced another new character this week. It's not wrapping up at all.
