I think in general /a/ just doesn't read manga. Aku no Hana is another example of a great "pretentious" series that got too popular so now it's hated.

A lot of unnecessary shit like the cult that led nowhere by the end of the manga. Even the side characters that were on said cult were wasted. The whole cult shit felt like filler.

Its the other way around for me
I got bored in the childhood arc and eventually put on hold for months by its end. I picked up again and got into the teenage/adult arcs and finished it in a matter of days

The cult was relevant in the Shimizu and Seki storyline though. To put it bluntly it was sensationalism taking hold of a mind filled with crap. Cries of POOP FOR THE POOP GOD and kids with shit for brains eating it up.

The into to v12 illustrates well how self-aware I think the whole affair was. How enjoyable it was to read is an entirely different matter.

Panels aren't censored when there's nudity, but any appearance of the word "fuck" seems to be gone compared to the fan translations I've downloaded. Most other swear words are there, though.

I like it. It has a typical anime artstyle and does what it wants to do fairly well. Inside Mari was trash if you want to talk about manga that actually is over hyped, absolute garbage. At least Aku no Hana is coherent with its plot. And those are from the same mangaka.

I'm curious what is so bad about Aku no Hana in your opinion. It's not perfect, but it's definitely not trash.
