Many of those things could as easily be supports towards his mentality as a whole rather than any Nen shenanigans. Also, a full body transformation that isn't connected to your own nen techniques seems far beyond any technique enhancements from before. So if some guy about to die would be willing to trade an arm away to survive that's not much of a sacrifice since he was about to die anyway. This too, to be honest I think the whole chimera ant arc was wasted potential, so many characters are put in dire situations but only like 2 of them have any serious consequences, one of which is mostly remedied in the next arc, it's completely toothless.

I think if there was going to be a story about gon wanting revenge for kite, Togashi should have introduced kite, and had him stick around for a couple of more lighthearted arcs, maybe have him start to become a father figure for gon, let the audience connect with the character a bit, so that way when we learn he's dead for real it would have more impact. As it is now, I knew he was going to die almost when they met him, and having him revived at the end was just a slap in the face.

Some ants are strong for their size and quite resistable. So human-ants being that strong made sense, especially when the queen ate hunters and humans with no stop.
