Have you had fresh fish? I dislike most overly-elaborate sushi (albeit I've never anything expensive or probably authentic), but salmon nigiri made with a salmon (the only fish you can get fresh here) that was killed and butchered just a few minutes ago is amazing. People add sugar to banana bread? I freeze any bananas I don't eat for about a month, and make my banana bread with that. It's a lot sweeter than browned banana. In fact, the inside itself is dirt-brown and almost unedible.

It's still full of sugar of course, but probably less than it would normally have. The bread itself is also a lot darker. When my wife makes banana bread, it has a brown crust with a white speckled center, whereas mine is almost as dark as brown rye.

Slow smoked cabbage.

Core 1 large cabbage. Stuff entire stick of butter inside. Rub butter on outside of cabbage after peeling away outermost layers to remove dirt. Salt/pepper to taste.

Wrap in two layers of tinfoil.

Smoke on low heat (~230 degrees F) for around 3 hours. Open all tinfoil for the last 15-20 minutes to allow smoke in.

Slice and eat. You will be amazed at how good this is. I do the same thing with onions as well.

I use a french press and light roast coffee from a roaster about three hours away. Right now, they're late with my order again. so I won't get it until Monday and I'm out.
