Case in point: The current hottest item on amiami this week is the overwatch tracer Nendo.

Japanese normalfags tend to like western things over anime. Frozen merchandise will outsell any anime character goods you can think of.

Hell even snoopy is better represented than most anime. I was in tokyo in November and every mall and train stations had stores with snoopy merchandise (mostly clothing but also phone accessories, keychains, etc). Snoopy was everywhere you looked and non-otaku were buying them. That is where the money is.

You can't fault GSC or Koto to pander to non-otaku and their western tastes.
