The implication the series was originally going for was that the Magicians were intruders in his deck, and his default deck was the Entermates. The running theory early on was that the Magicians were Yusho's archetype, and that Yuya was just cribbing them in an attempt to be more like him. As the series went on, it became clearer that whatever "darkness" was within Yuya's heart, it was being channeled via the Magicians and Odd-Eyes cards.

So really, Yuya's theme was "Circus Animals, except here's a dragon and some magicians because they don't fucking belong here" on purpose. It just never went anywhere, like 80% of Arc-V.

Neither of those cards will go to 3 because of the MC's archetype. For starters, the ace is usually Lv 7, so neither of those cards directly help it. Almost all the environments and a lot of the characters outside the main cast have that same wash of genericness post-64 5D's had up until the Arc Cradle arc. It was. Compared to the arclight stuff it was terrible. The barians themselves weren't threatening or effective in the slightest for a good 40 eps, making their grand offensive from 123 onwards feel more insulting than interesting. The ones that got any real development were just comic relief and solely exist plot-wise to be used as vector's puppets and any potential for further relationship development was just shoved out the window as soon as he brainwashed them. Vector himself was one note as fuck. Shark's switch to Nasch was too abruptly done to really empathize with or take seriously and a character ruining slap in the face after the 15 eps of filler at the start of barian arc. Rio does nothing ever. Durbe is the blandest fuck in the world. Don thousand is as bad if not worse than Faker as a last boss.

The duels were even more focused with protect the castle bullshit than before. The Astral world and barian worlds both are impossible to empathize with or care about since we know nothing about either of them. Yuma goes full card game jesus when before he was more a parody of a jesus figure with his stupidity and never say die attitude endearing him to the people who helped him in the first arc.

Above all else, it's an arc that lacks the quirkyness that made zexal unique tonally and for that alone it disgusts me.

It's going to be a Deck Master card type.
They will be played a new zone below the Spell/Trap zone and have effects depending on criteria met. There would also be criteria to be met to summon them. Once summoned, they lose the Deck Master effects and gain monster effects. DM monsters are treated as Effect or Normal monsters throughout the rest of the duel. DM cards would be treated like Spell Cards in their own Zones but if they would be removed from the field, they just go face down instead, until the next turn.

The criteria I'll mention will just be called DM Counters.

Deck master abilities could be as simple as "increase the Attack of Fairy-type monsters for every DM counter on this card by 100"

or something more powerful like:

"Remove 3 DM counters from this card to add one Beast-Warrior monster from your deck to your hand"
DM counters could be gained through specific criteria mentioned on the card like sending cards to the graveyard, destroying monsters by battle, activating Spell/Trap cards

This was really the only thing I could think of them doing without going back to the Extra Deck.
