To follow up on this, I believe that Eiken was so heavily criticized in the west because of how straight-forward it is. You have a shy MC that occasionally has perverted thoughts, the girl he wants to fuck, girls that want to fuck him, and big tits. There is literally nothing more to it than that.

Eiken is simple, but it's a fun kind of simple.
